Pikes Peak...
« on: April 11, 2009, 05:56:08 am »
Okay my family and I went to Colorado several years ago and one of the places we went was Pikes Peak. We all sat in a big car with some other people and drove to the top, with other cars behind and in front of us (full of people as well). Mom thought we would go to the top then eventually come down, but that wasn't the case. We arrived at the top and it was really really cold and we had to get off. Mom asked when we were able to go down.

Well, it turned out we had to wait a while to come down....we never thought that would happen...so we were stuck there until a car came to bring us down. Some other people were in the same situation as us.

That's my story. it was a really really long time ago (like in 2004 or something), so I don't remember exactly what happened. But I tried lol  ;)

Not exciting, eh?  :P ::)

Hi jchen,

Nice story about getting stranded, Pikes Peak is 14,115 feet tall pretty high up there many car's never make it to the top and you better have good brakes coming down. Here is a photograph of a donkey that help make the "cog railroad" back in the beginning of the 1900's the train engine actually uses gears to climb up, it's to steep for a normal train, you can see the cogs behind the little pack donkey.

I almost forgot this furry fellow ......

At that elevation the lack of oxygen (known as O on the periodic table) makes it difficult for most automobiles to run that high up.
