I'm waiting for LGA2011 to come out.

I'm still running on my QX6700 on 975X chipset (LGA 775) with maxed out chipset at 8 gigs DDR2 ram. I ended up skipping over the Core i7 and LGA 1366 series all together. I was still happy with my quad core on the 975X at the time when the i7 came out. Now that I'm finally almost ready for an upgrade, with LGA2011 around the corner, I don't see any reason to not wait.

;D  Good for you Synbios, If its working satisfactory for now, best wait for new model.  Problem is that the prices they are asking for new mobo`s,processors are out of sight for normal working person. Just watched the frenzy of Sandybridge, various processor boards, and spoilt for choice cpu`s. Money, money, money. ::) Someone getting rich.  Will probably change my own, but not just yet.
cheers

I agree. We are in a recession over here and prices for goods keep going up and up. What do these corporations expect? It doesn't make any sense. If ANYTHING prices should be going down!

Examples:
Still we see broken media delivery systems. Netflix continues to lose content and is hindered by the other companies. Prices go up for less service.
In grocery stores, food prices begin to rise as the product sizes continue to decrease very subtly. Look at the container sizes, you will occasionally see a few ounces get shaved off the containers.
New video games were never more than $50 just a handful of years ago. Not only are all the new games $60, but we see insane price increases on accessories. 60 bucks for an extra PS3 controller?? Do you know how much money Nintendo makes from people who just want 4 fully functional controllers for the Wii? It costs you hundreds for any decent gaming experience on a modern console.

:end rant:

Went the opposite way as my old Coolermaster haf 932 is starting to get a bit battered with all the moving and changes. Bought a cheap £19.99 Arianet Avenger midi-tower pc case on special. Changed all all the innard`s to smaller case and can only use smaller size fans instead of big one`s on 932. But with lots of extra fans lying around in boxes I found temps are even cooler, 24c at idle and I have yet to hit over 44c on load using Prime95 for 1 hour.  It`s actually a pleasure to run, very quiet. Only running at 3.45GB for now,on 2.67GB CPU stock. Still testing.
cheers

I have never bought a new PC in my life. I have never felt the need to have state of the art graphics cards, mega memory etc. The most I have paid for a second hand PC was £300. The bundle consisted of the tower, monitor, printer, audio hardwear, all relevent CD's, manuals, it even included Windows Genuine Advantage CD worth £95. Family and friends throw their faulty PC's my way when they buy a new one. I am a retired refrigeration engineer, and find tinkering with PC's an inexpensive, absorbing hobby.
I'm now venturing into laptops. I have just repaired the first two I was given. one was a little Clevo notebook. This was completely dead, no lights, nothing. I went on the net, and was told that it was probably 'static' they explained what to do and it was repaired in 10 minutes. ;) The other one was a large Clevo laptop which I repaired by formatting and installing XP with my Advantage CD. I had to buy a 2.5 external enclosure to do this.
So, Chelseaman, if you are wondering what to buy me for xmas, I suggest a Windows Genuine Advantage CD for Windows 7 ::)

When you buy a PC from a large manufacturer DELL, HP, Alienware, Asus ... they have a bit of code(SLIC 2.1 table) in the Bios that tells their windows 7 disk that the machine came pre-installed with windows 7 on it they use the same serial number on every machine & the machines don't need activating however much you fiddle with the hardware as long as you have a motherboard with that manufacturers SLIC 2.1 table in the Bios windows will be genuine.

This SLIC 2.1 Tables can be Inserted into any BIOS to make it look to windows like the machine originally came with windows 7 pre-installed machines with this done on them never fail Genuine Advantage.
