@Quantum

I understand your concerns about LCD image quality, but have you seen the new 120Hz LCD displays?
They are quite amazing.  All that motion blur is gone.

The biggest problem with LCD monitors for our work is its ability to adapt to various resolutions.. the ability you talk about is fine for fast gaming but for our use the CTR is a much better and more refined monitor. :)

Also when watching movie files, LCDs promote "blockyness", I watch stuff on my CRT on youtube and it can look o.k quality, when I watch it on my family's nice LCD monitor it appears to be much worse quality.

I don't understand what you mean by "our work" and "our use".

I deal with mostly text all day, something I have never seen look better than on a LCD at native resolution.

@Quantum

I don't know what you mean by "blockiness".
If you mean the artifacts from slow pixel colour changes, then that is exactly what a 120Hz LCD display addresses.

zooming in multi resolutions.. the LCD doesn't cut it like an ordinary one.. or an old one if you like.

Anyway.. i got a new pc today... *cissie does a dance*... yay... built it..
i now have a 3800 processor, 1 gig memory dual channel, i was gonna say it had twin carbies on it, but forget its not a car.. hehe  new harddrive, don't know anything about it,  new motherboard and other stuff.. anyway.. its so fast.. don't have time to make a coffee when i turn it on now, and i can do loads more stuff all at the same time.. as you can see i am hopeless when it comes to naming stuff.. but i like my new pc.. oh and a nice new box to put it all in.. hehe... helps when you get it all for wholesale.. YES!!!!

Motherboard: ASUS M2N SLI Deluxe
RAM: 1gb DDR2 Corsair VS @ 667mhz
HDD: 250gb Seagate SATAII

[Only reason i could afford this system is because i work at a local pc store, and i only pay what we buy it for!  ;D]

or quad processer
i want something faster than instant coffee.
i like graphics and want speed for rendering.
could use some advice on best way to go for speed rendering in 3d applications.

...well you could either build an entire 3D rendering engine in a GPGPU language and run it off a graphics card at super speeds, or upgrade to a high end core 2 quad core. The best in graphs at the moment is the 8800GTX. All that said, new CPUs and GPUs likely to come out by the end of the year from AMD, Intel and nVidia, so the whole marke will have changed by then.

Anyway, just put a computer together for my mums boyfriend.

AMD Athlon 4000+ X2, OC @ 2.4 GHz
2 GB DDRII 800Mhz (4-4-4-12) RAM
ATi HD 2600 XT (still working on over clocking it)
Gigabyte Mobo, nForce 570 Chipset

It runs fast and smooth, but I am struggling with driver for the 2600, the ATi Catalyst won't load probabily, anyway, going through their support issues, bit by bit.
