Getting away from thick Mancunians :-[

I am looking for a city far away from Billy.
You can forget your small  metric system on this one,a vowell seperates you moving  to the answer, although the vowell sometimes disappears in modern times. Just to be generous I will tell you that if you know your helicopters(Super Stallions.Sea Knights,Hueys and Cobra`s) it will ship you out in the right direction.

So many easy clues this time ::)  Manchester v Birmingham??  :-\  Where am I???

 ::) Obviously no history or geography buff`s out there. I probably wont help much by saying you are looking help from USS. I*****. a helicopter naval vessel which has a similar name to the city I am looking for. Sigh!!!

You will all be glad to know that I leave  friday am on a big ferry to Scotland and you will not have to put up with my crazy questions for  at least 8 days. Now where did Billy tell me that internet cafe was.? ;D
