I regularly hit 1.1MB/s on torrents on a connection whose DSL speeds are reporting at about 11 | 1  ;D

I don't know to tell all of that speed stuff but I can say 2 days in and WOW! Why have I wasted my time with  things such as limewire, bearshare, etc..  :o

download=1.04Kbps
upload=0.77Kbps
i test my speed here http://www.ip-details.com/ .i felt satisfied with my results.

1 byte is 8 bits are correct. kilobit megabits and up to 1000 bits are elements of the transformation, the bytes into kilobytes and megabytes is an element of the transition, however, since 1024, in megabytes, you simply can not say that there are 8 megabits. Technology to stay away if you want to do a little.
