Music making software for Mac

Hello!
I am fairly new to the music developing scene. For now I want to hone up my skills, to learn something new and then we will see if I want to start making music more seriously. I am mostly into creating short samples for video presentation. There is just one problem. I just lost my PC, and the computer I am left with is MacBook Air 13. Could you recommend me a good software for mixing music and making sound samples for Mac computer, please? I am a total noob in that field.

GarageBand is basic for beginners, so I'd start with it.
