I just noticed today that my laptop keeps making the same noise that your computer makes when you back up your cursor to say the end of your search engine type in box..(when it can't back up any furthur) even when I am not on an internet page.. so odd, and annoying.. does anyone know what this maybe?.. or what's causing it?...

Gibbler, What sort of noise??
Is it a whining noise or clicking ie,does it sound like a rough bearing on the fan?

I'm fairly sure the noise as gibbler describes it is known as the system beep. This could be being activated for a number of reasons.

I think it's possible to simply turn it off if you have a good around, but honestly I'd look in to your system processes and try and work out which process activating it.
