What do you think is the best media player right now, and why?
If you use iTunes is it because you have an iPod or do you have a different mp3 player and use a different media player because of that?
-
Windows Media Player 11 beta. Infact I am using beta on most everything on this S.A.S. (Serial Attachment S.C.S.I.) drive.
We need to implement a discussion board on Windows Vista vs. OpenSuseXGL (http://dl.tv/blogs/digitallifetv/archive/2006/06/22/14230.aspx.
I have dedicated a single drive to Vista and now looking to partition that drive to install LinuxSuSE. Need to compare and have fun with. ;D

Winamp for me, every other media player seems to freeze when i search through my library...
-
iTunes is wonderful. Perfect. Beautiful. Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.
Honestly, I just like using it. It is bigger, nicer, and easier than any other player you listed. Heck, I don't even have an IPod and I like using it.
-
Media Player Classic... does what i need it too without all the other bloat
-
I use musicmatch.
It's crap... it just sorts the music in a great way.
If anyone knows a music player that sorts its music like this:

iTunes because its easiest with my iPod. Can use ipod plugins for stuff like Winamp, but its not as good.

Same here......Works easy to change Widescreen movies to full screen......I only have a 25" TV and don't wanna have to squint my eyes....
-
Try using Windows Media Player 11. I still need more time in tweaking WMP11 and it does a great job on categorizing both video & audio files. But at face value there still may a few glitches but all in all it's fine for me.

I bought Winamp Pro years ago, did every update, but l was never happy with it, and it's worse still after the latest update.
l use VLC Media player, it plays everything without faffing about looking for licences and stuff.
l gave my buddy a certain type of file ;) on a cd, he rang me,and said his media player wouldn't play it, l told him to download VLC, and it played no trouble.
funny thing happened when l updated WMP recently,....l put all my Robbie Williams MP3's in a folder, and play them regularly so l know which song is coming next if you see what i mean, so can you imagine my surprise when two songs came on that l haden't heard before.....VLC player must have been missing them, and WMP found them :)

I use that for video files now, WMP would always lag for the first 30 seconds, VLC is great.

I use iTunes coz my sister has an iPod and I like coz it's easy to manage your library and stuff.
But I use Winamp to play a track or file coz iTunes takes longer to load.
And Media Player Classic from K-lite, for almost every video file.
-
Musicmatch for all my audio including transferring old songs from vinyl and tape.Superb!!!
Windows Media Player if you keep up to date and add all the video codecs is hard to beat.
cheers

WMP 11 Beta is bundled with just about every codec out on the market, much like you would find with K-Lite - if not just install K-Lite.
-
NW, you mentioned wanting to know if any other media players can organize like that.

foobar!
-
you really use foobar?? hehe i haven't heard of anyone using that in a while but it is a wicked media player..
I like BS Player for video and Winamp for MP3.. but am kinda gravitating toward iTunes since I bought an iPod... but hopefully after the Zune comes out I'll switch to the new Alexandria media player if its good enough to compete with iTunes.
-
The point is though
I just click on a song and it adds it to a "now playing" playlist (similar to WMP actually)
and if there's not a song there it will stop.
iTunes will just play the next artists' songs in alphabetically order when I don't want it to. I got frustrated by it.
-
I use WMP for video and Itunes for music
-
I use foobar for music & VLC for video.
-
foobar and vlc.. yah dont see those that often these days..
actually i didnt even know foobar was still around. maybe ill have to give it a shot. i haven't tried it since the early winamp days..
-
VLC is great for video. I keep running into things that refuse to play on zplayer or wmp, but VLC has played everything I've found.
-
i've been a fan of bsPlayer for video things that wouldnt play with wmp.. anyone else use BS Player?
-
iTunes is my personal favorite and I haven't even gotten around to purchasing an iPod as of yet. But the "Cover Flow" view option takes the cake for me!
-
iTunes here.
It's not the best, but it's simple and does what I want.
-
For me: Foobar w/ ColumnsUI addon
http://www.foobar2000.org/
He He!
-
Well I use MusikCube for my audiofiles : http://www.musikcube.com/
(it has the fastest database, compared to Winamp, iTunes and Windows Media Player)
And Bsplayer for my video-files: http://www.bsplayer.org/
Sometimes I use Coolplayer and XMplayer for easy and low ram-sucking music moments
-
i am using WMP and BS Player PRO
-
For non-dvd videos I use mostly Media Player Classic, but for dvds it's PowerDVD.
I enjoy music most of the times via Winamp, but I always have Foobar2000 in my system ready to reproduce sound perfection.
-
i m using itunes more often than anytime before!its great
specially th podcast idea its great
-
Winamp for music
PowerDVD DVD's, Mpegs & Transport streams
VLC for AVi's and DTS Audio CD's
-

-
MPC(video) and WMP(audio)
Itunes is overrated

I think you're going to have to give me more info, what do you mean by "you"? There isn't a member called Cissie there.

Okay... its not me its my partner.. look up Diddeleedoo and you will find what i am talking about. Brilliant programme which has been created by him, and has had over 5600 takers of it.. hope you get something from it. :)
-
I use Winamp or Windows Media, depends how I get up ;D ;D. But for videos I allways use bsplayer. I never have a problem with that program.
Saludos desde Argentina.

guttermouth... nice choice
-
forgot to mention that earlier.. but NW, if you haven't tried Winamp + Album List plugin yet... give it a shot.. its pretty similar to the MusicMatch format of grouping albums, plus some other cool things..
the screen shots look really crazy, but see if you like it.. you might like the added power/stability of the Winamp player over MusicMatch :)

LOL i agree with you on this one....I find that winamp is a much better player...ifind that its most versatile
-
guttermouth... nice choice
Sorry to disappoint... but when I switch computers I deleted all the stuff that I don't listen to/I downloaded for friends, etc... and it looks a lot different... no Guttermouth anymore... ::)

Winamp has an album list plugin? Gahhh why didn't any body else tell me this before?!? I used Winamp for about 2 weeks and couldn't stand the way it lists the artists and things but could see it was a good player if you liked the ordering. Thanks a lot Chip!
-
i listen with aimp...is the russian alternative to winamp...but more.
-
After trying out a lot of different players the last few years I am now OMLY using 3 players in rank of ...
1. VLC for movies ...
2. Media Player Classic ..
3. Musicmatch for "MUSIC"
-
VLC and Winamp
-
Update...I use WMP 11 for most videos, I use Winamp 5.35 for all audio, .flv videos I use FLVPlayer 1.3.3 and for .gvi videos - Google Video Player
-
I've always liked the plug-ins and skins with winamp better than windows media player, even b4 using the latter mentioned if there were no winamp I would prolly use real player.
-
for music i use foobar2000! check it out....
-
I use Foobar2000 on my laptop 'cause it has alot less music on it, but due to the massive medialibrary I have on my PC I use Winamp with Mediamonkey.
-
winamp, vcl and WMP9..vcl will play a beermat if required ..i think.
-
is there anythin better than vlc for video...?
i currently use vlc: video, winamp: quickfly listen of mp3s, itunes: mp3 management, and long run mp3 listen
-
VLC player and BS player for divx/Xvid movies :) and matroska hdddd :D Sometime for sound WinAmp but my ex girl friend likes more than me.
And WinDVD for DVD-s movies.
-
WMP 11 the better one! :P
-
I still use WMP 11 for most videos, I use Winamp 5.35 for all audio, .flv videos I use FLVPlayer 1.3.3 and for .gvi videos - Google Video Player.
Since I venture to many websites that have embedded videos I downloaded the Firefox add-on 'VideoDownloader' that allows me to to download embedded videos from a website ie: youporn.com and save to my HDD.
-
dizzler media player
cus i dont have to download songs, to listen songs :P
-
For movies Windows Media Player, for music definitly Winamp (cus of the many features), for DVD's I prefer Power DVD (same reason as winamp, features)
-
for me in winamp the best for playing music.. for movies i prefer bsplayer.
-
I use MusicMatch only because it's easy for me to figure out and have never had any trouble burning cd's or getting songs to my mp3 player. I actually listen to music on Windows Media player though because for some reason through my computer it sounds better...? ???
luv

Musicmatch has always been good for me. So easy to use until recently when it was bought over by Yahoo Music. Got through the migration change over but seems Yahoo is only interested in the money and has set different standards for what used to be straightforward easy to use programme.
cheers

You know, I saw that one day when I opened it but for what I use it for I really haven't been able to tell a difference. Yahoo is big enough though its sad to think they are so money hungry. You think they could give us something to work with. I have been a yahoo user since 95 and love them but still......
I hope they don't try to do anything funky and mess my groove up . haha

vlc media is my fav but i also use musicmatch an oldie but a goody for me

VLC Media Player for movies - http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
VLC - the cross-platform media player and streaming server
VLC media player is a highly portable multimedia player for various audio and video formats (MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, DivX, mp3, ogg, ...) as well as DVDs, VCDs, and various streaming protocols. It can also be used as a server to stream in unicast or multicast in IPv4 or IPv6 on a high-bandwidth network.

Xion for music - http://xion.r2.com.au/index.php?page=home
Xion is a high fidelity, easily skinnable, out of this world audio player.

I tried it. I don't like it. Library support sucks (it doesn't even have any)

GOM player I've tried winamp, Windows Media Player and others, but Gom plays them all and never gives me problems.
-
Thank you
-
windows media Player
-
;D Normally Windows Media Player, but using Nero 8 Showtime which if set as default, will play most. Occasionally due to material sent to me via Billy Media Center will play all. You can set controls for quality etc. but watch you dont give full control to Media as to logging and reporting what you are watching. You can always "set up later".
cheers
-
I'm still using vlc sometimes, but mostly I'm using zoomplayer. It's easy on resources and good pictures, loads fast.
-
I like foobar for music and GOM for video.
itunes to me would be the best if it didn't cause conflicts for me with ConvertXtodvd, wasn't such a memory hog and could retian links when I move or rename files.
songbird is amazing and I'm cheering heartily for it. But for a year now I have been installing the latest hoping it will be stable enough to use in real life, and so far no.
atunes has some pluses too for the itunes crowd.
and for video, GOM is easy to use and trouble free, looks nicer than VLC, and plays everything.
-
I like simple things,like BS player ;D
-
The first public Songbird beat is out!
Deffo worth a try.
-
1st place: ITunes looks good and its very easy to use.
2nd place: WMP to share my media with my connected xbox360
-
What do you think is the best media player right now, and why?
I voted for RealOne because it's the BEST Free video player on the web available because it plays almost all file types without need of searching the web for the codecs!!!
-

i use vlc player..it loads fastly as well........
-
Winamp only
-
VLC player.....it plays anything including the vast amount of porn Tex sends me....lol
-
I've actually switched to iTunes now that they've made a better interface :)
-
If you want to be able to play almost every media try Media Player Classic with a full Codec pack.
-
VLC since it's free. Win-Amp Pro with a cool skin is always nice!
-
Itunes drives me insane.>>>>> I find it really hard to navigate around...
Windows media player has always been so straight forward and easy to use
-
vlc to watch quickie shows like colbert report/jon stewart at 1.5x
mpc home cinema edition for documentaries and movies that require real attention (like inception)
-
The first option that matters most is its multimedia player for playing everything on your system. VLC media player is simple to use that also comes with a pile of powerful features that users demand, let’s look at each of these options and how you can apply it properly.
