Computers - Technology / xp different to vista
« on: September 22, 2019, 06:51:19 pm »
Hello everyone,,
Looking for probably a very simple answer. Just bought the wife a fairly basic laptop which has vista home basic installed along with 3 months of Norton (which will be removed shortly to NOD32). Very slow to boot up and slow to close down. On XP I could use all programmes, select "run" and use msconfig to select programmes to boot with,to speed up .vin check
There doesmt seem to be the same options on vista. Any ideas how I can speed up boot and shut down.
cheers

Computers - Technology / Need help with a new motherboard
« on: September 21, 2019, 08:19:08 am »
Planning to get a 3950x and was wondering if there will be new ones released with it. Also I have 2 motherboards in mind because I want an all black build. It's either the asus rog strix x570-f gaming or asus pro ws x570-ace

The rog strix is 290$ and the asus webhotelli pro ws is 310$ So price doesnt really matter to me I like the look of both. I was just wondering which one is better performance-wise? I'm only gonna use a rog strix 1080 and 1-2 nvme m.2 ssds and 2 other regular ssds. 4x8gb corsair vengeance lpx 3600.

Any help would be appreciated.

Computers - Technology / Is the PS/2 keyboard/mouse different from USB?
« on: September 17, 2019, 12:11:47 am »
I've had a hackintosh for about 10 years now and for some reason the USB keyboard has been giving me trouble. I thought it was the MB, so I installed Windows 7 for the same MB that was running macOS. The USB mouse is giving me trouble (cutting in and out).

Someone suggested to use the other USB set (the board has 2 USB banks), and also suggested that I try the PS/2 ports for the mouse/keyboard.

Q. Does the PS/2 ports work on a different channel than the USB does so that if my USB doesn't work under macOS, then maybe the PS/2 will?

Is there any USB 3/3.1 PCIe cards that work with macOS?
