Mobile Phones / HTC Incredible S has signed bootloader
« on: March 23, 2011, 03:58:35 pm »
Having the original Incredible and being a big fan of HTC's decision to keep the booloaders unlocked, I am quite disappointed to hear the news that the new successor, the Incredible S, will have a locked bootloader.

Are manufacturers trying to crack down on us who love to change to custom ROMs?
Perhaps all the glory and popularity of custom ROMs will only be known when Android was in its infancy. I have a feeling in a few years when all these phones come locked we will look back and remember the "good times" of freedom, like many, many other fields.  :-\

Back when I had Vista I would install SPs as soon as they came out cause Vista sucked so bad.

I've been kinda lazy with this one, because I'm already pretty happy with Win7. I just installed it today and so far it runs about the same. I saw a report saying the bootup time was delayed slightly but I haven't noticed any changes yet.

That's a good point so do you think it's better to just buy the regular HP branded ink and the cheapo generic brands and re-filling kits are a waste?

Hopefully it doesn't eat through ink for lunch. I recommend printing with the lowest ink level as possible. Overall I think you made a good choice though I have a similar model (not sure which) and it has been pretty solid.

I stood by HP for years, but their more recent models have pissed me off. The seem to suck ink like no other. My HP photosmart especially seemed to use all the color cartridges even when i set it to black only mode. I'm like what is going on? Plus some of the cartridges expire, and it doesn't even let you force to try to use it anyway because it "might damage your printer"...right.

An ink cartridge expires? Whaaat? And it only has a lifespan of a year or something like that?

I'm not going to waste my time...

My wireless printer for the family is an HP though, that one seems to work fine. It all depends on the model I guess; but after this first Brother purchase I've made, I'm going to stick with them from now on.

The brother printer takes RAM from laptops so I found an old 128 meg chip I had and it gave it quite the boost in performance. The stock memory of printers is pretty low like 8-16 MB or something. The brother is one of the fastest printers I've ever used at 34 ppm. Automatic duplexing as well (two-sided printing without manually swapping the paper). It never jams and never has that problem when you send a file to get printed but it just never prints, and then you try to delete it and it doesn't go away.

I'm using the parallel port and I find it a bit more reliable than USB, considering I have never had a problem with it.

We've all been down that road. It's sad to think that some of our favorite teams may never win a championship in our lifetimes.

Think about all the boston red sox fans who have died without ever seen a world series win. I'm glad the 86 year streak was broken in my lifetime though!

I saw the moon yesterday and it was so bright I could barely look at it. They said it was about 30% brighter in my area.

The best printer I ever bought was a brother HL-34D or something like that.

I get so annoyed with buying ink, so this was my first ever laser printer. I also got only the B&W model, which for the most part is all I need. The fact that the cartridge lasts years for me is pretty nice.

I used to have an HP photosmart printer and the damn thing took like 7 ink cartridges.

It got pretty bad reviews, I wouldn't recommend it but I did like it. It just reminded me of this situation though it is quite different as well.

If you're looking for international spy movies though (and I don't mean Austin Powers), Salt was way better than what I expected.

Wow that's crazy, nice find TheHalf. I'm glad this guy got set free in the long run. The U.S. must have really cared for this guy to pay the blood money.

Any of you guys ever see the movie Buried? This is starting to remind me of that movie.

Also, remember what happened when we found those Russian spies? We traded them for people we wanted released, and now those Russian spies are living comfortably back at home.

Very true, I initially shouldn't have had such a cold shoulder.

I was reading that page and it sounds pretty interesting. IMO the guy was some sort of CIA spy and was helping out with planning the drone attacks.

Unfortunately, I don't think he is a diplomat, and Pakistan can frankly do whatever they want with him. If we found a spy in the U.S., we'd obviously keep him in captivity too so I can't expect anything differently.

This guy obviously seems like a pretty smart guy, but I don't know why he left his car to take pictures of the dead bodies. He probably could have gotten away if he just ran.

Where's the connection to 9.11?

Charlie Sheen is an asshole, I'm glad he got fired because he thought he was un-fireable and was asking for 3 mil per episode.

I like 'two and half men' never miss it cos Berta turns me on...[eyes]

LMAO, I had to look up that character, I was so shocked at what I saw. ;D
