I'm looking for a new media player. I'm a long time user of windows media player, but I am very disappointed with where it is heading now (the new version is HORRIBLE)
The new version doesn't show the artists and tracknames like it used to, never tells you the length of a playlist, and the entire playlist system is messed up in general, nevermind the fact that it uses TONS of resources.
I really like the setup of itunes. But I want something clean and to the point with none of those crap ipod running processes in the background and iTunes helper.
I hate winamp too. It's too small.
Anybody know a player similar to itunes? Or a site that has some reviews of some of the unknown media players?

Have you tried 'VLC media player' Syn? l find it very good, it plays almost everything, and doesen't search for licences.......haven't got a link, just google it ;)
oh...and it's free...lol

VLC is excellent for movies but it doesn't keep a library so I doubt it would be what Syn wants... I do use VLC a lot though and is worth getting for anyone who doesn't have it.

VLC in this house is known as the back-up media player, it plays and does everything, it just doesn't have a very good user interface.
I don't really use media players in the same way you do, so I can only suggest the usual ones, mplayer, zoom player, winamp, etc..

I've used VLC it does play everything but I use a media player whenever I'm on my computer. I want something a bit nicer looking.

What about media monkey.. we use that.. great.

this is an old post but just to add my two cents...i use bsplayer...and i've tried all the ones mentioned above..and i'd still pick bsplayer over all of them

I really recommend VLC player....
So do I.

I use GOM. It's like VLC but prettier. And its free.
If you want similar to itunes, there's atunes (an open source version and not bad)
There is also songbird, which is a bit experimental yet but is quite neat. It's based on Mozilla. I find it freezes a bit on me, but I have 200gigs of music on three drives and I freeze myself.
The new foobar using the default UI is quite a robust player, and again is free without ads.
So after trying a dozen media players and audiop players, I am currently using foobar and GOM.

Songbird has come in leaps and bounds since this post was first made, the new version can even 2 way link with iTunes.

Try VLC .... IT IS good

I would recommend Foobar2000 if you're looking for a music player with a library.
if you just want something that willl play every file ever created by man, go for VLC

Try KM player ;)
It's the best in my opinion especially in play lists..if you click in one format to play it will play the rest of the same format with no need To pic them all
and it's the best in video ::)
Good Luck with your choice ;D
