fixed: Arabic translation shows and english in File -> Language menu and in the intial installation
fixed: If you have dialog box open, Bit Che can not be found by selecting Alt-Tab

fixed: Should the [list_results] also have a Ratio? I can not find it in a language file.
fixed: "Guevara Account" does not get translated in registration box.
fixed: Under [menus] in .ini file "Repeat searches on all tabs" and "Repeat searches on current tab" are missing
fixed: Minor cosmetic comment; should there be space around "/"? see "Show seeder / leech ratio as:" and "Show/Hide Scripts"
fixed: couple other minor things..

new: option minimize bit che to the system tray
new: option to refresh all open tabs at set interval (great for leaving minimized)
new: hot keys (F5/F6) added to refresh current tab and all tabs
new: torrent ratio displayed on list results (option to hide in the preferences)

Damn that is a problem... the sizes are all the same for TV Eps and the only difference is generally the EP #... i'll have to think about this and see if I can come up with a work around for TV Eps..

Thanks!!

Just gotta say that I love Bit Che. I didn't think it would make such a difference, but I love just opening one program, typing in a few words, and getting clear, organized search results from 8 sites at once.

Seems quite good.

All we need now are more scripts, some API documentation and some useful variable names wouldn't be bad  :P

i'll have to do the documentation on the script commands and varriable names after I've finalized at least a few more scripts and made sure that the current interpreter is pretty much complete for handling most site's parsing requirements.. so far its looking good.. I only had to make 1 minor adjustment to handle mp3nova.org and that script is done, along with newtorrents.info..  i've decided to stop working on the public sites since those are fairly easy to script (once you get the hang of how to use the script commands to parse the html).. and now I'm working on implementing support for login based sites like Demoniod.. I'm about 50% done with adding support for that site.. so I'm guessing another day or two..

hmm, and i just noticed there is still a bug with the file size sorting algo =/ easy fix though, i forgot to trim the decimal point off after converting from gb to mb's =/

That!!! will be a major step-up for Bit Che once you've completed that chip, good going.

done :)

now... if anyone else has some invites for other sites, please let me know so I can try to add support for as many different types of login sites..  thanks :)

Thanks, new build makes it really worth using over the last couple  :)

I don't really go on any login bassed sites, will have to ask for invites off perhaps some forum members Demoined just to test it. But will ask around in the house to find some sites that use user name and password stuff.

build 41 posted!

as long as there are no significant bugs in this version, I'm going to put Bit Che on the back burner for a couple weeks...   I'll try to write up some doc's for writing scripts but I dont think I'll be adding any new features to Bit Che for a little while. I think it's at a pretty decent place to take a pause since i dont think there are any pressing improvements needed (with the exception of media type searching, but that will definitely be addressed when I resume coding)..

I have no plans for a registered version for Bit Che... thats simply so that people will know if they have "paid" for Bit Che at some scam site, that really the software is freeware..

By the way - as a thank you in the real world I sent you a donation. It's not much but it should get you a Pizza to munch whilst working on Bit Che.

I posted a work in progress beta of build 45. Its not an official release so I'm not going to update the change log yet. It is a little more polished than build 44, but it is mainly a build to test the new support for language files, for translators.. You can find the download link in the translation thread.. otherwise, an official build 45 should be ready within a few days..

what about an option in which you can save some scripts with a name? i mean when you click on the mp3 search option to select only some sites with mp3. when you click on the my favourite sites to select a list of scripts. Hows the work going on revolutiott, blue-whitegt and dldldave.com?

Why do you ned to version of this program?
Title: Re: Bit Che - 1.0 build 52
Post by: chip! on November 08, 2006, 08:41:51 am
several reasons:

1. To help the Bit Che project grow by enticing more people to get involved and to help out in whatever way they can.
2. To have a simple way to reward those people who do help out with the project.
3. To give an extra reason for people to donate to the project. Yes, I am a student in college and need money to help pay for the server costs, etc, and also I need money for 'pizza' to eat while I develop Bit Che. While this is the least important of reasons, it is still a valid reason nonetheless.

There are even more reasons, but I don't think anyone would need more reasons..

Guevara Edition:  http://convivea.com/forums/index.php?topic=254.0

-new feature: sticky tabs. to use, right click the tab you want to be sticky. a "*" will be added to the caption to signify it being 'sticky'. when you close Bit Che, any sticky tabs will be saved, and when you launch bit che again, those queries will automatically fire up again.

chip what about

1) adding date also on the tabs except name size etc so we can sort the results with the dates?

2) Also when we click in the white space next of a tab to open a new tab but i think this is difficult

3) Add specific torrent result manuall to remove them. A lot of times we see a fake torrent and we have to make the search again, it would be nice to have this ability (with hash checking maybe? or it will slow down the program?) Torrents should be added in a seperate remove list in my opinion

4) when you hover the mouse pointer over a tab to see search name, media type and also the number of results

5) an option to check a number of days in order to show a (new) text right next to the search result. i mean if i set 10, then the torrents that have been released in the last 10 days to have a "*new*" text next to their name.

I quite agree with Exoskeletor's suggestions 4 (number of results) and 5 (new). But maybe it's too much info in a same place.

About the fake torrents, it's just the beginning. Industry will put more and more fake files online within the few next months, so I don't know if creating a fake files list will do any good  ;)

1. cant do the date because bit che only becomes 'aware' of the creation date after reading the torrent file directly with the Torrent Details.. but like I previously said, we could add the date field to the list of results (name/size/seeders, etc) for the sites that do report the date. I dont know off hand roughly how many sites do or do not report this, and if it would even be useful to have some results with the date listed, and others without, but I will throw this on to the ToDo, so that I'll do a little more research about it when I have nothing else to do.

2. I'll make it so that when you Right Click the white space, a new blank tab is loaded..

3. This really isnt possible except unless we start creating a 'blacklist' of file names to ignore, but for the sake of being slim, I dont think I want to implement this....

4. I can do this no problem.

5. this might be possible, if we start extracting the submitted date, as talked about with item #1, but if we do implement that, then I suppose we could just sort the dates, and then you'd see everything listed from newest to oldest (and then the torrents that dont have dates at the bottom)..

in the next version when someone click the right mouse button to open a new tab give the focus on the textbox and highlight it's content

Also make it to minimize in tray and to add time to refreash all the open searches. in my opinion this is a superb feature. and to inform users when a new search has been found (something like the rss that more torrent sites have)

Most sites have a date in the search lists, there are a only few which do not (slotorrent, torrentportal, torrentspy).  You'll also need an addition to your scripting language as dates can be a murky area due to the differing formats: dd/mm/yyyy  dd/mm/yy  dd/mm  mm/dd/yyyy  yyyy/mm/dd  and some just use the regional settings of the searching pc.  Shouldn't be a problem with the addition of a scripting command which mirrors the VB6 format command with a user defined date mask.

Exoskeletor -
I'll update this np..  the minimizing to tray with refreshing open searches and reporting when a new result is found will take some time and planning before implementing, because at that point, a rough database will probably be needed to keep track of what results have been "found" already..  this could get messy, but I'll add it to the ToDo list... thanks

Thanks for the new build...

Request, can you please reread the filter.txt before doing a new search.

Currently you seem to have to exit BC and restart to get the filter.txt reread, and I've just realised BC is processing the filter.txt as regexp's.  Adding [Sex] as a line in the filter.txt removes any result with an S, e or x in it. Is there a way to make it straight text?

BTW, F4 and F5 only seem to work on the last tab displayed, I normally run with remove exact off, but highlighting the first sticky tab and pressing F4 or F5, removes results from the third tab.

Much appreciate all you effort Chip.

chip are you going to implement user profiles for the trackers also?
Title: Re: Bit Che - 1.0 build 56
Post by: chip! on November 25, 2006, 09:02:41 am
as i designed it now, you can go into the settings.ini and create your own profile, and then specify which trackers you want to use that tracker (using the scripts Sidebar), and also configure the search url for each site for that profile (editing each script.ini)...  you'll have to do that manually though, since I didnt want to add anything into the main program that would be confusing..  and I figure the more advanced users wouldnt gripe that much about doing something manually =/

but, regarding your question, are you looking for something else?

Title: Re: Bit Che - 1.0 build 57
Post by: chip! on December 08, 2006, 09:41:02 am
ok... i finished Minimize to the Tray..   i was hoping for an extra button on the caption bar, but unfortunately the code for that is a nightmare in VB6. I was hoping to hire another coder to do that code for me, but no one has been able to do that yet that looks good enough to use with Bit Che..   so in the next release, it will just be a standard option to minimize to the tray, and the I will have the tabs repeat the searches every 30 minutes (configurable in the settings.ini)..    that will have to do for the time being..

also, i have changed the setup for the Guevara Edition. I've implemented a server check/registration for the Guevara Edition account. I decided to go this route for several reasons...   1st)  I will not have to compile and upload 2 different versions anymore. A single distribution definitely will make things a lot easier for everyone in the future.  2nd)  I will be able in the future to automatically enable accounts when people donate via Paypal and do not have a user account on the forums because it will be database driven.   3rd)  The registration will be tied to your email address which will make it harder for someone to go share the 'Guevara Edition' with the rest of the internet.  I have no problem with people sharing it with their friends.. so this will not be a problem for that scenario at all.

I dont think anyone will have a problem with this because it will be almost entirely transparent to any registered users. All you have to do is enter your account once. Bit Che will verify that its a valid account. Then you will restart Bit Che and you'll be good to go. Also, I have made sure that the extra code for this 'registration check' does not slow down the startup of Bit Che.

Title: Re: Bit Che - 1.0 build 57
Post by: FidoFuz on December 08, 2006, 09:59:36 am
I had this problem a few years ago and decided the best solution was to make the form borderless and draw my own title bar, min, max, and close icons.  That wasy I could easily add any sort of controls to the title bar.  It means quite a bit of extra coding just for a simple button since you have to handle the moving/resizing too, but it means making it easier to make BitChe skinnable in future.

Title: Re: Bit Che - 1.0 build 57
Post by: chip! on December 09, 2006, 07:30:51 am
hmm... maybe, but I know I personally would definitely be more annoyed with the focus being sent away from Bit Che after opening one because I often open multiple torrents before clicking on uTorrent (which is normally right behind Bit Che anyway).

but ill see about maybe adding that..

bugsssssssss:

1. message boxes shown while Bit Che is minimized are not clickable and unresponsive  (fixed, re-download build 58)
2. strange issue with searching a single script after the message box bug  (not reproducible, possibly tied to the below fixed bug)
3. 'All' from the scripts bar gets updated with 'Please enter your registered email' string. (fixed, re-download build 58)

That's not a bug.. you can resort the results however you want by clicking the column headings. It goes ascending or descending order when clicked (just like with Windows Explorer). If you click the seeders category the results will sort according to seeder number.

also, that kind of is a bug with the sort by seeders not working, because its suppose to sort by Seeders automatically, but apparently its doing 'Source' by default, which is pointless ;)  so i'll have this fixed asap.

yeahh... that was a bug with build 58 that will be fixed with 59..  the code i used to translate all of the controls in bit che looks for the control name against the language file, but I just forgot to rename that DoubleClick label to one that has a matching string in the language file...    (its named for a uniLblDoubleClicking instead of the standardized lblDoubleClick naming scheme.)

i'm going to upload build 59 in a hour or so, i just have a few minor adjustments to make with the package, including the new version of the 'compare.exe' tool...

(has all the strings for build 59)

The English.ini file seems to be older that build 58 ini file and does not have all the strings (like Coffee..)
Can you please post the latest English.ini file?

Thanks!

that English.ini should be basically 100% complete...  it shows the menu/form strings for Coffee, etc for me..

[menus]
mnuCoffee=Coffee
mnuEditCoffeeCups=Edit Coffee Cups

[form_captions]
frmCoffee=Morning Coffee

etc..    are you not seeing those in the file after you are downloading it? (if so, maybe your browser has cache enabled and you are seeing an older file.. try downloading again)..   or do you mean something else?

Looking pretty nice, lot of new features in these last couple of builds. Sorry I've not been bug testing recently, been caught up in one thing or another, lectures, Wii, Anime society stuff etc..

When I get a bit of free time over the holidays I'll try and do a thorough search for bugs. In the mean time, thanks for the great software  :)

i think demonoid.com has a problem lately (or they have server problems like torrentbytes.com)
Chip when someone has enable to check every 30 minutes, if a torrent site has a problem and you dont press ok, bit che keeps sending you messages and messages. make it to send only one for earch site if you can please

Chip what about adding a feature to browse torrents? to show for example for every site the latest 10 submited torrents (at least for the sites with username and password)

Also what about a feature to add the selected torrents to a new profile? (except media type profile i think we sould have Torrent selection profile or something like that)
Title: Re: Bit Che - 1.0 build 59
Post by: chip! on December 15, 2006, 06:44:59 am
just checked Demonoid and it appears to be working.. probably server problems.

- I need to fix up the check every 30 minutes feature so thats been added to my list.

- i've been wanting to implement browse torrents for a while now, but for many sites this will require a new script code.. but now that we have several active members working on scripts, this might be a good time for me to look into that as again..

- could you explain a little more about what you mean by selected torrents to a new profile? do you mean selected sites/scripts in the scripts side bar to a new profile?  the media type profile would work for that, i've designed it so that it can be both "media type" selector and also just general "script selection" profiles..    I will make a post about how to add a new profile (you have to edit your settings.ini)

Chip some new suggestions:

How about a statistics page? just like the results and downloaded when we start bit che but to show more:
searches, torrents downloaded, torrents founded, file size of the files etc

Rating system it would be good if we can add a rating on the torrent sites. For example all the private torrent sites to have an 100, torrentspy 50, btunkie 30 (adds a lof of trackers and in the end there are a lot of connections and the speed is not good) etc etc. This would be good because we dont have to remember or to search which torrent sites are private or was good on the past etc etc. Maybe for hardcode users like us this is not very usable but for new users this could be very usefull. Of course we can add any rating we want. (give on private trackers a very good default rating etc)
Another reason for private servers is the ratio we have on a site. for example if we have low ratio we can add a very good rating to remember to seed.
On public trackers we have also differences just like the example i say with btjunkie.
What do you think?

Something else, when we are using the bc:// command like it replaces the latest search. make it to do the search in new tab open to maximize to window if it is minimize (not maximize, return to previous state)

What about also a "type" in the list with the results? i mean to be able to sort files in order of extension

1. Great idea for the statistics. I will improve this and either add the statistics to the About Bit Che dialog, or just use a MenuItem & MessageBox to display the more detailed stats. Or maybe ill just have it loaded into the statusbar as well. I'm not sure yet.

2. I like the rating system idea so I have written it down as things to consider, but that would definitely require some major changes to Bit Che and even the ListControl. But, since I was going to try and get one that is UniCode aware or maybe eventually write my own, this rating system might be a good idea.

3. I will fix that for sure. Ick! :)

4. I dont think type will be possible unless we start extracting that from the search sites. But, this is *sort* of redundant, because if you use Media Type searching, then you can assume that what your seeing is a video, or music, etc..  However, I'll add this to the list. If/When I get around to implementing torrent date extraction from the site, i'll look into the file type as well.

Thanks :)

Feature suggestion:
How about a daily newspaper with your morning coffey. Most torrent sites show the latest torrents (today/yesterday/last 12 hours). I would like suggest a feature of displaying the latest torrent from couple of the most popular web sites. It would be good if that could be filtered and sorted at least by age, type, minimum of seeds and minimum of leeches.

A sample of where the daily lists can be pulled:

I use utorrent under Vista aswell.
I had this same problem, but it isn't Bit Che.

When you set utorrent as default under Vista it doesn't quite take.
You will have to manually set it.  Just click on any .torrent file, select "open with",
browse to the utorrent exe, and make sure "alaways use this program" is selected.

That should take care of it.

I just wanted to say I have vista business edition (32bit) installed and Bit Che works great with Azureus.  No issues here.

I would also like to add a suggestion for Bit Che. The only reason I still check out sites like mininova is for the daily top torrents list.  I second the idea turegum had about a daily newspaper.  I think it would be great if in the future Bit Che offered a section listing the most popular daily torrents.

P.S. I just tried out Torrent Harvester, a program very much similar to Bit Che but featuring many more torrent sites to search (which is the main thing that persuaded me to try it).  However, most of the sites they offer don't work and the search results window always flashes like crazy when it is being updated, which annoys the heck out of me.  I would like to say Bit Che has a much cleaner interface and is quicker and simpler with connecting to the private trackers.  I wasted a couple hours of my life trying to get access to all the sites TH offered and realized more than half didn't work.  I had a bit more search results with TH, not as many as you would think, but I'm confident BC will include more sites in the future and resolve that shortcoming.  For now I'm sticking with Bit Che.

Keep up the great work Chip! ;D

Hey akalol111 and welcome to the site.

Glad to here you like Bit Che  :), stick around and watch out for the release of Bit Che build 60, some major new features are being implemented along with the usual of more languages and more sites, should be to your liking. However because the features are big and the devloper, Chip, is rather busy at the moment it's taking a little while. But hopefully not too long now before we see a public beta of it.

3 weeks of snowboarding and busyness, really hope you had enough fun to balance off the work Chip.

Really looking forward to the new release and seeing some more sites get indexed, particularly as one of my favorite sites has folded, sladinki007.net

BTW, whenever I open a torrent file from BitChe into uTorrent, the new torrent dialog in utorrent pops up twice, happens on pretty much every torrent and I don't think it happens if I open a torrent straight from Opera.  Has anyone else noticed this, or is it an oddity just wih my machine?

Keep the history of items that we have search after the bit che is closed and open again. (lets say that we can configure the number of the items from the ini also, if we have set 20 and we have 20 items. the next one will replace the last one)

Any chance of removing the login info from the settings.ini would be a lot less confusing if you stored them in the scripts dir using the same name as the script but a different extension.

Would also make it a lot easy er to remove them when testing.

Is it possible to add a scroll bar at the bottom. That way if you have many tabs saved like I do, you do not have to maximize the window to view them.

Also, remember sort.  I like to view them by latest realese in a series not by seeder.  But thats not an important feature just a "If you have spare time and feel like implementing it" request.

Once again, thanks for such a wonderful program.

Ahh it's a tough one that actually, I don't know if you're familiar but there was a similar bug in Firefox 1.5 and below, I think they tried about 40 different UI's and they all looked chunky or crap.

I suggest Chip takes a look at the latest nightly build of Firefox 3, alpha 8 is out as I post this ( http://developer.mozilla.org/devnews/index.php/2007/09/20/gran-paradiso-alpha-8-available-for-download/ )

Particularly try scrolling when you have loads of tabs open (make it different web pages or you don't quite get the effect). See what you think of its handling in general.

Flexible Specialist script categories would be handy
for things like Anime sites so its easy not to bother searching them for general stuff or just search them for specific searches

Don't know if this was mentioned,

Having flashing tabs when your list is updated from the last search, or have bit che highlight what has changed from the last search.

I normally keep bit che open the whole time I'm on the pc, even for days at a time. But my list (Searches) are so long that I have to sort through them to find what is new.

I download alot of episodic content (anime seasons).

compile date: Mar 5nd, 2008

-Windows Vista compatible: now stores scripts, language, temp and other program files under "CSIDL_LOCAL_APPDATA"  (can be disabled using "portable=1")
-added option to set "portable=1" under  "[options]" in the settings.ini  to force Bit Che to use the current directory as the root dir  (mainly for making Bit Che portable safe)
-added new icons (much prettier when ALT-Tab, etc)
-rearranged some menu items locations & added 2 new menu options "Open App Data Folder" and "Clear Search History"
-self-heals the BC:// links if the registry doesn't link to the current running Bit Che.exe

this will be Bit Che 1.0 build 60 RC1!

yey :)  happy testing.. thanks everyone!

-chip

ps, notes about the new storage paths.. this change was made to be compatible with Vista and future versions of Windows. Users will no longer have UAC problems and "Run as Administrator" is no longer required. Bit Che will automatically copy the settings.ini (and essential Bit Che files) to the new storage path. this allows Bit Che to install over old versions and not lose the old settings.ini.

I'm quite liking build 60, one minor quible is that when you go to enter registration, there's no explicit "cancel" box, I realise there's a close box but it's not quite the same.

There's not a lot I can see, it's quite good, probably going to be a bit before I find any noteworthy bugs.

As another pieces of polish I would like to to say that under:

"Options > Show / Hide Scripts"

Is a toggle tick, literally speaking your ticking the option "Show / Hide", which doesn't make much sense, it should just be:

"Options > Show Scripts"

Ticking that makes logical sense to show and unticking "Show" makes logical sense that it would hide.

Another thing occurred to me, a language page?

Make a link in the language box which says something like "Other Languages" for those which have been updated or not included since the latest install of Bit Che?

I have to agree that this build is excellent!

Have been using it for the last couple days and I can't find
anything that I'd really change.

Great work Chip   ;D

Can  you please add the option to select which browser to open when clicking on 'open page' or any external link from Bit Che? I have 3 browsers and have set FF as default but I use Opera mostly and that is always running in background, I'd like BitChe to use Opera for opening links instead of the default system browser (intentionaly set to FF).

Also, is it possible to make the position of tabs moveable? (like manually moving Ratio after Source, Seeders before Size.. etc.)

Thanks for the software btw (I didn't even know it was being updated, and I have known about BitChe since the first release :P).

Ok, on Windows Vista, search results extend down past the bottom slightly, cutting off the text just barely.

The new version looks great.

here are couple of comment regarding the language files:
- When you click Coffey without registration, odd Yes/no box with no text appears (Did I installed it incorrectly?)
- "Open Apps Data Folder" (in the menu) does not seem to be in the english.ini
- "Clear Search History" (in the menu) is missing from the english.ini mnu section
- English.ini has "Would you like to update to the lastest scripts now?", should be "latest"
- on Script download completions there is a "Update Complete" window and it has an English text "All scripts have been updated!" which is not in the English.ini file
- Progress windows text "Updating Bit Che Scripts" is not in the English.ini file

Thanks  :)

I am getting this error message now and cannot open Bit Che at all.  I am running Vista Ultimate 64 bit.

Any ideas why it would have stopped working? ???

Files that help describe the problem:

  C:\Users\Shane\AppData\Local\Temp\WER8FE1.tmp.appcompat.txt

My guess it isn't 64-bit compatible.

I noticed that you used a different Bit Che logo on "About Bit Che" window than "Preferences" and "Torrent Details" windows in Build 60 (Guevara Edition).

Thanks for the great program.

My guess it isn't 64-bit compatible.

Well I'm running XP x64 and it's fine. It's probably an issue to do with DEP, which should be fixed in build 60.

Bit Che 1.0 Build 60, test 6, (RC2 - compile date 3/27/2008)

if you used test 5, please read the notes below if you would like to keep your settings.ini when testing this new version.

http://www.convivea.com/download/Bit_Che_1_0_60_6.rar

polishing touches, fixed:
- data/settings is stored in %appdata% instead of %app_local_data%

notes:  if you have Test 5, use 'Open App Data Folder' from the File menu, and copy your settings.ini to your Desktop.
then you can unpack this Test 6, run it, and then 'Open Add Data Folder' again to go to the new folder, and copy your settings.ini there (and restart Bit Che).

- "Options > Show Scripts"
-  blank Yes/no message box with no language file being used
- "Open Apps Data Folder" added to english.ini
- "Clear Search History" added to english.ini
- fixed typo with "Would you like to update to the lastest scripts now?"
- updated both Script Updating and Download Torrent to use the language file, added missing strings to English.ini
- all issues with DEP are fixed, all Bit Che components are now able to run on any Windows version (or Linux/MacOSX with Wine emulator)

added:
- ability to specific a specific browser to launch URL pages  (open settings.ini, under "options", make a new line "browser_path=" and put the full path to whatever browser you want to use)
- command line flag "/portable" to force bit che to use the current directory as the app path.

this is meant for general testing. if there are no major problems, I will move this version over to an installer and release this version publicly as build 60, asap.

thanks everyone!

Couple of comments about this release candidate

English.ini file has:
mnuChangeLanguage=ChangeLanguage
Is that used at all?

From "Torrent Details" window clicking "Open Torrent" a small progress box appears stating on the second line "connecting to". This "connecting to" is in the English.ini file but does not get translated.

Selecting "Update Scripts..." -> progress bar "Extracting" does not change to a different language and Update complete box header and text do not change to a different language.

I also notice a minor strange behavior:
Select "About" -> "Update Scripts". If you leave the "Update complete" window open and exit Bit Che, "Update complete" window stays open. Other info windows force you to click OK.

What is the best way to get updated language files included into the next release? Maybe you could also post it to "Translators Wanted!" thread.

Thanks  :)
