Post by: chip! on June 19, 2006, 07:57:27 am: When I was first selecting sites to include for the basic sources of Bit Che i noticed many sites seemed to share a very similar database of torrents, especially considering some only index other sites, whereas some are actual hubs like PB.. so.. I'd love to include some more sites if they dont cause a considerable overlap/duplicated results.. basically we're just going to have to do several generic searches on the different sites and compare the results to see if any of these other sites have a significant amount of new torrents.. hopefully we can get some more user feedback on this.. thanks for the list!

Post by: chip! on June 19, 2006, 11:28:01 am: I wish that was possible to remove duplicates based on hash checking.. but that would require Bit Che to actually download the torrent for each search.. or query the web server of the souce of the torrent for the hash info.. and some sites dont even give that info..... but i just got done writing an implementation of the Levenshtein Distance Algorithm which compares the torrent names and file sizes and works as a fairly basic way to remove duplicates.. I'm rather happy with it, so I'm going to go ahead and add more sites to Bit Che even if they produce some duplicates..

So that if there are any p2p site, the person can just edit it, or recieve updates to torrent directories? That feature would make it much more appealing then normal... or am I just making things a bit too complicated?

Plus they have a pretty good selection, and it's usually just as good or better quaility than other trackers.

can someone explain to me how toptorrents.org and filesoup.co.uk work? is filesoup.co.uk just forums where people post torrents? I didnt see many torrents there and I dont think it would be work a major code update to Bit Che to support it unless I missed something? and for toptorrents.org, is there a download page or do you have to be a member or something??

Toptorrents is just a release news site that just lists information on new torrent releases from 40 or so sites. There is no downloading there. Filesoup is just a forum where people can talk about whatever they downloaded. I don't think there are torrents you can download there.

Those two sites you an leave out since they don't offer torrents. Sorry for the mix-up.

i love it, this is sooo much easier to script now! :)

go ahead and update your scripts if you wanna include iptorrents.com results :P
