I am giving my server a slight server upgrade. I apologize for the down time, but both the Convivea website and the Forums will be down for several hours.
I will update this post once the migration has begun (at which point, likely service will be down)..
And then I will update this post again once the new server is up and running.
Thanks,
Chip

Phase 1 of the upgrade is complete...
unfortunately, I have to wait until tomorrow to complete the rest.. however forums and server should be online.

Exactly what is it your doing chip? if you don't mind me asking. ^-^

I noticed it was down yesterday, but it's working fine for me today (clearly haha)

Both *small* hardware upgrade to a faster server, more ram, disk space, and bandwidth.. (completed)
And, software upgrade to run a newer version of the server OS, Apache, MySQL, etc.. (the tricky part, but long over due). I expect even further performance enhancements as well as the security updates.
And, merging another server I setup for a friend.. (tricky)..

This is the new server... well, at least the new environment.. but its the new forums database, so hang tight!
-
OK.... please let me know if you see something that is not quite right... but we should be live now on our new server.. complete with server OS upgrades :)
-
Running fine so far.

hahahaha... that would be REALLY bad if the mustache was missing after the upgrades! LOL...
ps, I know it might be hard to tell, but anyone notice if the pages are loading quicker? (or hopefully not slower?) :)
-
It was running faster for me earlier, but just now it was slow opening a few pages (took a couple seconds), also I checked the bottom and it said this:
Page created in 0.239 seconds with 19 queries.
earlier today:
Page created in 0.067 seconds with 20 queries.
I'm not sure if it's my connection or browser, but I haven't noticed this before. Also that page created thing is server-side correct?

Thanks synbios. Im looking over a tracert to the server and I'm seeing some slightly odd hiccups. I too am having some delay (2-3 seconds) for pages. But its not just Convivea (also my friends site). I think the network traffic in and out of the datacenter might be having some problems in general right now, so it might be unfair for us to try and compare.. I guess lets let it rest for another 24 hours or so and then see if we can notice any differences..
oh, and yeah, that page created time is server side.. I think anything under 0.3 of a second is pretty fast (but im not an expert on servers)..
update: I am going to reboot the server here in a few minutes (you might see 1-2 minutes of downtime).

Actually they are loading quite slow chip, but this might be as your rebooting the server.

still having sporadic delays as of right now, we'll see how it performs tomorrow.
-
well im confused. I put a support ticket into my host asking if they had any network problems, and they said all their stuff was fine and it must be a configuration problem on my part (entirely possible)... BUT it seems like the server is back to being very fast.. no lag, and I haven't changed anything yet.
-
I now see a much better difference when I bounce all around the site, no lag, no slow downs and quicker response times. Using Opera and multi-tabbing. So far so good chip.

I'm using Opera here as well...
everything seems snappier than ever now. links are very responsive! it looks like it just took a little while to settle in. [rolleyes]
not that it's completely related but as an fyi as well: Page created in 0.056 seconds with 20 queries.

OK, the server should be pretty decent now. I had a 3rd party expert look at my configuration. Let me know if anyone has *any* problems... or if you notice the site even faster than usual :)
-
it seems as fast as can be now pretty much.
