Thought I might bring this back too.
I will argue all day that Rap and Hip Hop are the same thing! 8) lol
Rock classifies as STANDARD rock, yes I agree punk and metal can be classed underneath Rock.
I decided not to include Alternative because it's too vast

What?!? You can't include indie! It's not even a genre! It just says that the band aren't mainstream! They still fall under the category of Rock, Pop, Punk, etc

What?!? You can't include indie! It's not even a genre! It just says that the band aren't mainstream! They still fall under the category of Rock, Pop, Punk, etc

It actually stems from alternative rock bands with independant record labels, but has become it's own genre. Anyway, plenty of indie music can't really fit in any other genre. Try to say otherwise and indie snobs will hunt you down and beat you with coffee cups and Mogwai mixes. ;D :D

Indie is more specific than alternative, imo. But it's kinda hard to define.
Plus, it stems from alternative. Rock split, making alternative. Indie became an offshoot from alternative. Music is too vast to be a genre, but there is a big difference between rock and jazz.
And I warned you about the beatings. I've got a brand-new Mogwai album, too. Rawr. ;)

Ugh, I listen to so much it almost hurts to pick 3 styles. I was just going to go Rock, Jazz and Classical and hope that sums up most of it. But yeah I like everything.

Gee thats tough to pick just three.. all depends really on the mood your in. I love anything.. except for Rap.. leaves me cold.. anything else.. no problem.. oh and even country i can handle a "little" bit of that, so long as the steel guitar is eliminated.. Joshua Kadison type is good.

I like Rock, but Argetinian Rock, or for example Pink Floy or Led Zepelin. I don't like the heavy metal or something like that. I saw that 4 people (i'm the number 5) vote clasicc. It's a sorprise for me.

I also would like to add 80's retro music...Mind you it's because i grew up in that time and i find that they were te greatest years of my life...I do like today's music as well I'm a die hard rock and roll fan plus i like a little of everything...It's nice to have variety this way whatever out there is new it just keeps getting interesting...

Checked in the dictionary to see if there was some other meaning I am missing but it gives the same as I thought

Personally much of todays music is machine driven. Boom Boom/Dit, Dit/Boom Boom, and is only there for boy racers with big stereo systems in car. The female singers all sound the same. But I will admit there are a few groups still left that I Enjoy.

;D Much of what you listen to.depends on your mood,where you are at the time and sometimes who you are with. No head banging stuff here pls, but good old 70-90s rock Pink Floyd/U 2/Eurasure etc, sometimes out in the car the country and western comes through best, because I usually sing a long.lol. Then in my quieter moments ,some light classical Grieg/Rossini/Aboloni , and Adagio of strings.

I selected Techno/Drum and Bass/Electronic for the fact of which is, it's the closest I could get to my genre of interest. My genre of interest is "Aggrotech", Many of you might not have any clue what that is and that's fine. Aggrotech, is a more.. darker side to Industrial, Harsh-EBM, Dark-Electro and such all fall under "Aggrotech". If you want to find out what Aggrotech may sound like, search bands like "CombiChrist", "Dawn Of Ashes", "XP8",
and so forth. I do take a slight interest in Techno/Drum and Bass/Electronic, though... I'm into Non-Vocal trance, drum and bass break beat, and stuff like that... Electronic, is not something I enjoy... but it depends on what other genres and mixes are thrown into the Electronic mix that may satisfy my interest.

I checked Folk, Native Contemporary (because I like the World music genre and I suppose that's what that would fall under :) ), and Rock, but I also listen to others, such as Country, Pop, some Jazz and Classical, sometimes R&B, so I have lots of faves!

hello there. I am new on these forums.
I also think there should be a separate "contemporary classical" on the list, though it can be shoved under "classical", the problem is, that it is entirely different in concept, writing and performance. so different in fact, just take Beethoven and Feldman, for instance, that it can be called a genre on it's own. just a suggestion.

Can be anything but rap and hiphop. These two styles I just hate. I would rather listen to old metal ballades but they are so hard to find now. Nobody issues this any more. I found mp3juice (https://mp3juice.link) that allows to download MP3 music and this is actually my last hope to find what I want. I hold my fingers crossed for that. So did anybody hear about that already?

Good evening, I agree with the previous commenter. You must achieve your goals. You need to evolve and become successful at what you are passionate about. Piano is great!!!
