too many to mention.

Just lately it's been Stay, Lord of War, The Jacket (as you can see these are recently released DVDs... there's been nothing exceptional at the cinema lately...)

haha! Nice Dinner.

Just watched Donnie Darko for the first time, quite a thinker but good movie.

If you want to see a movie at a cinema, unfortunately they're all popcorn movies - Pirates would be best bet, although it's not that great... but worth a watch none the less.
Miami Vice does come out in 2 weeks though....

Ok... rent any good movies lately?

I just rented The Matador and it was good for about 30 minutes but just went downhill from there...

Also, I went and saw Miami Vice.. which I thought was really good.. it definately wasn't action packed every second of the movie which is what most people wanted and were expecting to see, but overall, I thought Miami Vice was a great movie..

Last movie i rented was King Kong. Specials effects were good as was the acting, but the movie just dragged on a bit too long. Knowing what happens at the end kinda made it less sad as well.

I wanna go watch Miami Vice sometime. Ive watched Collateral on DVD and didnt really think it was that good so im hoping im gonna like this.

A good film I seen recently was Click.
I liked it although it was a bit cliched the whole stopping time idea there was a message to the story about how not to live life that connnected with me. Also Adam Sandler's Movies are most of the time great!

So I watched Miami Vice today after getting my results. It was ok, but god was it hard to tell what was going on. I got the storyline vaguely but it just seemed to have all these long conversations and some of the talk i couldnt understand. My girlfriend fell alseep for a few mins and asked me what was happening, i was like ???, just like everyone else.

V for Vendetta still holds the best movie I've seen this year, but there are quite a few good ones (The Black Dahlia, Flags of Our Fathers/Letters from Iwo Jima, The Fountain, The Prestige) still to come  :)

saw 'zombie biker chicks from hell' last night.... it was really really crap and not in a so bad its good kind of crap, just plain shite, having said that I still sat through the whole film, all 90 minutes of it...

verdict, not funny, not scarey and worst of all no boobies or woman love

Last night I watched this movie:  Me and You and Everyone We Know (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0415978/)

It was an excellent movie. Strange, but very funny and interesting. Somewhat in the vein of a Garden State 'type' movie, but a little less commercialized and a little more indie style. if you're into Canes/Sundance films, check it out!

Movies I've seen throughout this year that I'd recommend:

1) Crank
2) V for Vendetta
3) Revolver

Watch Crank if you dont wanna "think" too hard about a film or its plot. Its just a fun, action packed movie to watch w/ a GREAT ending, I think. It's just a cool movie with guns, explosions, drugs, ...you get the idea.

V for Vendetta had a great plot and a GREAT lead character in "V". I love Hugo Weaving from The Matrix films & his job as "V"(although the only hint to Hugo was V's voice) was outstanding. Great ending as well.

Revolver is, of the top 3 I listed, my favorite probably. Deep movie that'll make you think. If you saw it already and didnt think it was deep, it must not have sunk in. Watch it again. Awesome characters in this one.

If you liked Revolver go back and watch the other two Guy Ritchie movies
Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels
Snatch.

I love them!

Yeah, you have to see Revolver, chip. Be sure to post what ya think about it after.

And the other Guy Ritchie movies were great. Snatch my fav of the previous 2. Jason Statham iis a lead character in all of the above movies, including Crank.

Most Jason Statham flicks that I've seen have been good. He plays the badass pretty well. If you like him as a lead character like I do, be on the look out for a movie he's doing in '07 called "Rogue" alongside Jet Li.

Yeah I've been meening to catch that too and hear "the business" is another good similar style film. Watched "Shooting dogs" yesterday...... a great film but probably the most shockingly depressing movie I've ever watched. Not one for when you're on the pain killers/anti-depressents..
be prepared to feel awful afterwards

Saw "Kiss kiss, bang bang"  thought it was one of the best movies I had seen in a LONG time, very funny even thought the ending is beyond farfetched. Would reccomend it to anyone who likes movies like pulp fiction, lock stock and snatch (gangster flicks with comedy mixed in). The americans have done it brilliantly here.

On another note saw Borat too last week hilarious (but not for everyone, it is satire and toilet humor at its best.. quite literally in one scene) and unsuprised by all the law suits that have been filed as a direct result of this film.

I'm going to go see Casino Royale in about an hour.

Wow, wonderful film. Daniel Craig made a great James Bond. It was more about a simple(r) but intense plot and less about weird gadgets.

I FINALLY got to watch Revolver.. it never came out in the US so I had to spend a little bit of time tracking it down. BUT!!! I LOVED THE MOVIE. It was an absolutely HEAD TRIP in terms of complexity, plot line, and characters, not to mention the subtle balance of the artistic license used. overall, highly recommended movie to check out. its smart and complex and a good mix of action.

Watched Blood Diamond today and was blown away by it! I knew it would be pretty good coming from the director of The Last Samurai but this was quite a movie. My old boss was born and raised in Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) where the main character is from. DiCapro does his best performance to date in my opinion, at first I didn't think he quite got the accent but after watching the whole movie he does. I forgot he was even american at one point! Anyway it's worth a look if it seems your kind of movie.

Also watched Léon (a.k.a. The Professional) and hadn't seen this movie for years but finally picked up the DVD for $10 at a local stall. Really cool action movie (an action movie with a plot if ever one did exist ^_^), I really enjoyed it.

The most recent horror movie I saw that was any good was Stay Alive...thought it would be cheesy but it was pretty good!

Also like 88 Minutes...

watched "Leon" (natalie portman, jean reno) for the 1st time in years yesterday... its just as good as it was all them years ago, funny, clever (ignoring 1 or 2 plot holes) and some of the best character development I've seen in a film.

Post by: TheNightWatchman on April 02, 2007, 05:09:35 pm
Yes Leon is awesome! I finally found it in DVD, been looking for it everywhere. Found it on one of those random stalls in the middle of malls selling DVDs for $10 (which are usually either really old or movies that you've never heard of heh).

The director has signed on to produce the new Hitman movie so HOPEFULLY it will be good (especially since Vin is out of the picture)
Title: Re: Any movies recently watched worth mentioning? (New Movies & DVD Rentals Thread)

Yer Leon is definately an awsome movie, I always worry about how some films age (they seem good at the time but watch them 5 or more years later and they seem tacky/cheesy etc) but this one I think will stay just as good forever. Its one of my favorites and at $10 I'd say bargain!

On another note saw 'Buffalo soldiers' for the 1st time on Friday. I found it extremely funny but I think  for most people it would depends on what you find humerous as a person and your exposure/attitude to drug culture.

I'm not going to watch it at the movies.. but people who have come into see it reckon it was just average. It seems that it going away from being clever and becoming 'as much gore as possible'.

Hard to say though as the same was said about Saw III and I thought it was ok (but nothing more).

Go watch American Gangster instead!

From the movie posters and trailers that I get to see, the hits of this year will be:
Pineapple Express (http://www.firstshowing.net/2008/02/12/must-watch-red-band-pineapple-express-trailer/) (I have high hopes for this movie, no puns intended)

I think that the best movie atm is 'PAUL' an English comedy movie about an alien. The 'voice over' by Seth Rogan is brilliant [yes]

There's another movie I watched lately that I really enjoyed, Man on Fire. I know it's been out for a while but I saw it on TV the other day and was transfixed!
