My girlfriend's laptop is having trouble running .ppt's in the new powerpoint.
I just installed a fresh copy of office 2007 pro (the same one i used on my computer). My computer runs everything fine but when i open older powerpoints in compatibility mode on hers, the words fall on top of each other, you can see what i mean in the attached image.
Has anyone ever had this problem before? Any ideas?

Well I'll tell ya Synbios, I installed Office '07' beta Kit 2007 on XP Pro and had some glitches using Powerpoint, Excel and Word. Then I uninstalled Office 07, installed Vista Basic and reinstalled Office 07 and no problems. So I can only think your running Office 07 on an XP OS or you may be using a beta version of Office 07.

Yup, you're right her laptop is running XP pro, my computer is running Vista Ultimate. That's gota be the problem.
I wish microsoft would come up with some way to make the two compatible though. If office 2007 isn't compatible with Xp, then why would it let it install??! I wonder if there's a way I can fix it without installing vista, because that's not really an option.

I'm trying to work out whether I didn't read this right... or maybe it's down to the fact that I should be sleeping right now... but I have Office 2007 installed and haven't had any problems with it and I run Win XP?

No you read it right. It seems like Office 2007 is having trouble running on XP. However, I have seen other computers with XP running it fine. There's gota be some other factor, but related to the operating system.
What service pack are you running Watchman?

With XPPro I am using SP1, good point to bring up Synbios.

Her laptop has XP Pro SP2.
I guess that's not the problem. Ugghh! still not working. I have to find a copy of Office 2003 probably, and then set it up so i can open the new files with the patch.

Have you tried updating it? I believe there is a SP1 (maybe more now) for Office 2007
