What monitor do you have? I used to have a similar issue when I tried plugging my TV to my PC and the fix was to plug in to a different monitor to change the resolution. The default resolution may not be supported by the screen you're using. Also try to make sure that the graphics card works. Try it in someone else's PC if you can.
