Computers - Technology / Re: registry programmes

There's a free utility called Glary utilities that lets you clean up registry, start up programs tec.

but best thing is it has a one-click maintenance option too. I run it a couple times a day or whenever my comp feels a big boggy. Takes 10 mins and can run while you are doing other stuff. Dunno what all it does, but my comp always feel fresher and more sprightly after. NOTE: I leave clean cookies unchecked because I prefer to do that manually

I was living in an AirStream trailer when I started going online, and my brother's greeting for me was ''and how is life in the tincan?''.

We all have our personal favorites of course, so the minoir quibblles could go on and on. But anyone wanting a great set of tools should download and install this list without substitution.

General Discussion / Re: In search of a new media player

I use GOM. It's like VLC but prettier. And its free.

If you want similar to itunes, there's atunes (an open source version and not bad)

There is also songbird, which is a bit experimental yet but is quite neat. It's based on Mozilla. I find it freezes a bit on me, but I have 200gigs of music on three drives and I freeze myself.

The new foobar using the default UI is quite a robust player, and again is free without ads.

So after trying a dozen media players and audiop players, I am currently using foobar and GOM.

For 2008, I'm guessing the Ting Tings will be the IT band

u2

For the first half of my life it was the Stones, but it's a bit dated now.

I usually avoid Oscar winners because they seem more hype than substance, but No Country For Old Men is brilliant, easy to watch and just ..... fill in a superlative.

The Hold Steady

Not sure how their latest stacks up against previous work because I'm still only on my 100th listen.

People compare them to the Replacements with Sprinsteen fronting, but to me they were everything Everclear (one of my faves ever) promised and more.

I like foobar for music and GOM for video.

itunes to me would be the best if it didn't cause conflicts for me with ConvertXtodvd, wasn't such a memory hog and could retian links when I move or rename files.

songbird is amazing and I'm cheering heartily for it. But for a year now I have been installing the latest hoping it will be stable enough to use in real life, and so far no.

atunes has some pluses too for the itunes crowd.

and for video, GOM is easy to use and trouble free, looks nicer than VLC, and plays everything.
