General Discussion / Convivea Forums is getting a slight server upgrade
« on: February 28, 2011, 03:26:08 pm »
I am giving my server a slight server upgrade. I apologize for the down time, but both the Convivea website and the Forums will be down for several hours.

I will update this post once the migration has begun (at which point, likely service will be down)..

And then I will update this post again once the new server is up and running.

Thanks,
Chip

Bugs & Feature Requests / New Bit Che domain: www.bitche.es
« on: February 04, 2011, 02:16:17 am »
Buenos Dias,

bitche.me and bitche.us are both very expensive domains to renew. so I looked at a few alternatives, and I am going to consolidate both into just one new domain: bitche.es

.es is the domain for Spain. I lived in Spain for 5 months, and also the name Bit Che has some spanish/latin american influences, so I like it.

let me know if you have any thoughts/questions, or if anyone really likes one of the former domains.

Thanks,

Computers - Technology / GOD MODE in Windows 7 - [Quick Tip]
« on: August 27, 2010, 02:09:05 am »
http://win7vista.com/index.php?topic=15286.0

Although its name suggests perhaps even grander capabilities, Windows enthusiasts are excited over the discovery of a hidden "GodMode" feature that lets users access all of the operating system's control panels from within a single folder.

By creating a new folder in Windows 7 and renaming it with a certain text string at the end, users are able to have a single place to do everything from changing the look of the mouse pointer to making a new hard-drive partition.

The trick is also said to work in Windows Vista, although some are warning that although it works fine in 32-bit versions of Vista, it can cause 64-bit versions of that operating system to crash.

To enter "GodMode," one need only create a new folder and then rename the folder to the following:

GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}

Once that is done, the folder's icon will change to resemble a control panel and will contain dozens of control options. I'm not sure it's my idea of playing God, but it is a handy way to get to all kinds of controls.

Computers - Technology / Set Windows 7 as WiFi HotSpot - [Quick Tip]
« on: August 27, 2010, 02:02:50 am »
http://mintywhite.com/windows-7/set-windows-7-wifi-hotspot-quick-tip/

Windows 7 comes with a new feature for sharing your computers internet connection. Now you can do it wireless. Well, As long as your system’s wireless network adapter supports Windows 7 “virtual wi-fi” feature, you can do it.

Next you need to check if your network card has the latest driver to support the feature. Intel, Broadcom, Realtek and some other NIC makers provide such drivers.

If the two above conditions are met, you are good to read on …

Open an elevated command prompt (Type “CMD.EXE” in the start menu search bar, then right clicking the cmd.exe link and selecting “Run as Administrator”).

In the command window, type: netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=MyNet key=MyPassword
Replace “MyNet” with the name you want to use for the wireless network and replace “MyPassword” with your chosen password for accessing it)
Press Enter.
Now type: netsh wlan start hostednetwork
Press Enter.
Open Control Panel and go to Network and Sharing Center.
Click Change Adapter Settings.
Right click your Internet connection and select Properties.
Click the Sharing tab.
Check the box that says “Allow other network users to connect.”
Choose your virtual wi-fi adapter and click OK.
Now wi-fi enabled computers within range should see your new wireless network and others can connect to it if they know the password.

Good news... the Search Bit Che for Firefox plugin version 1.01 is ready for download.

New: comes in 4 different styles so you can pick and choose which version you would like.
New: uses different code to find Bit Che application (uses Uninstall info instead of BC:// handler path, thanks SpinMachine!)

This version does NOT require a RegEdit fix.. and it should work on ALL computers.

Works with FireFox 3.x - 5.x (yes it works with the latest 5.0).

Below you will find 4 different versions, a standard version that includes "Search Bit Che for 'text'" and a short version that simply says "Bit Che". Both versions have the option of adding a menu image.

They are listed as:

Standard:   search_bc_ff_extension_1_01_standard.xpi
Short:   search_bc_ff_extension_1_01_short.xpi

Standard with image:   search_bc_ff_extension_1_01_standard_with_image.xpi
Short with image:   search_bc_ff_extension_1_01_short_with_image.xpi

To install:

1. Download the .XPI of your choice
2. Drag it into your FireFox window
3. Press Install
4. Restart Firefox

Let me know if you have any problems.

Enjoy!

General Discussion / Cider
« on: January 06, 2010, 02:25:00 pm »
After some travels over to the UK and sampling the ciders over there, I am a bit saddened that here in the States, we do not have many "cider" options. Obviously this is because, bars here mostly only stock beers. But also, there is not much "demand" for ciders here. Until I went and sampled some amazing ciders myself, I never knew what I was missing.

For all of your UK'ers, what are good ciders?  I have done some initial searching and have found that ciders in your pubs have often been subject to the same laws that effect our beers here..  marketing/budgets=increased product placement... even IF it is a worse product.

Over here in the USA, I have only been able to find Aspall, Blackthorn, and Strongbow imported. What are your opinions on those?  I personally tend to like dry.. non-sugary, and strong cider.

And lastly, I am considering learning how to make cider myself.  Yes, I love cider.  Who has tips or suggestions in this area?

cheers!

or

http://bitche.me/

:)

ps, which do you guys like better?

First off, failed= is used to determine if a bad user/password was being used.. and failed2= is used to determine if the stored authentication cookies have expired, and bit che needs to "re-login".

Now..

For the site, passthepopcorn.org, we must rely heavily on the winsock log to determine what to set for failed= and failed2=.
For information on who to enable these logs in Bit Che, please see: http://convivea.com/forums/index.php?topic=1465.msg14093

After investigation, it seems that this site does not return HTML as you would expect for a "valid login". For example, when sending a correct login and password:

Code: [Select]

Sent:
POST http://passthepopcorn.org/login.php HTTP/1.0

<td colspan="1" align="left"><input width="12" type="password" name="password" id="password" class="inputtext" /></td>

...ETC...

These 2 lines indicate that the login attempt was successful, and instructs the web browser to move on to the /index.php page:
Set-Cookie: PHPSESSID=bdbo3olaru0d7o7tg7; path=/
Location: index.php

The problem here is that the site ALSO sends the same exact HTML code in that response that it does for a non-logged in user, complete with the HTML code for the login form. (i have cut it off above to save space here, but you will see the full HTML in your winsock log).

So.. with that in mind, we can NOT use standard failed= and failed2= tags to look for, such as

failed=form name="loginform" id="loginform" method="post" action="login.php"
or failed= You entered an invalid password

because those strings are going to be present in the full HTML packet response even when a successful login has happened.

so to set Failed=, i send bogus login/pass to the site:

Code: [Select]
Sent:
POST http://passthepopcorn.org/login.php HTTP/1.0

<head>
<title>Login :: PassThePopcorn.org</title>
<meta http-equiv="Pragma" content="no-cache" />
<meta http-equiv="Expires" content="-1" />
...ETC...

since the full HTML is sent with that as well, we have to ignore it (because if the HTML is the same for different states, then its impossible to distinguish what state we are in)..

but, concentrating on the HTML header response, I notice that this line seems to be unique.. meaning, i dont see it with other HTML requests, and I only see it when i have sent a bad username/password request (above), so it looks like we can use this as our failed=... letting Bit Che know that we just entered a wrong password:

Set-Cookie: keeplogged=deleted; expires=Tue, 20-May-2008 06:37:31 GMT; path=/; domain=.passthepopcorn.org

from this line:
failed=keeplogged=deleted;

because its the shortest unique and not changing string..

Next... we need to find failed2= to determine when our cookies have expired, and Bit Che needs to attempt to re-login.

So, if possible, login correctly with Bit Che. But if thats not possible because your script isnt working quite yet, then just edit settings.ini directly, under the site name, and put in something like "cookie=anythingboguscookie=temp;" so that a cookie is stored (thus Bit Che thinks it has logged in successfully... cookies are only stored if the login was successful).

settings.ini example:

[PassThePopcorn]
profile_0_enabled=1
user=BitCheUser
password=6AS46BEMREF
profile_0=http://passthepopcorn.org/torrents.php?order_by=s1&order_way=DESC&disablegrouping=1&searchstr=%SEARCH%&filter_cat%5B1%5D=1
cookie=PHPSESSID=AHBABBEDBABDEBABABES;

if you were able to login correctly with Bit Che, then just quickly edit settings.ini and change your cookie= to anything else.

Now that Bit Che has an invalid cookie to use, we can launch HTTP search request, and the response will simulate what we should expect to see if our cookies had expired:

Quote
Sent:
GET http://passthepopcorn.org/torrents.php?order_by=s1&order_way=DESC&disablegrouping=1&searchstr=2009&filter_cat%5B1%5D=1 HTTP/1.0

Accept-Language: en-us
Referer: http://passthepopcorn.org/torrents.php?order_by=s1&order_way=DESC&disablegrouping=1&searchstr=2009&filter_cat%5B1%5D=1
Connection: Close
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.8.1) Gecko/20061010 Firefox/2.0
Cookie: PHPSESSID=AHBABBEDBABDEBABABES;
Host: passthepopcorn.org

Received:
HTTP/1.1 302 Moved Temporarily
Server: nginx/0.6.36
Date: Wed, 20 May 2009 07:01:12 GMT
Content-Type: text/html; charset=.utf-8?
Connection: close
X-Powered-By: PHP/5.2.9
Expires: Thu, 19 Nov 1981 08:52:00 GMT
Cache-Control: no-store, no-cache, must-revalidate, post-check=0, pre-check=0
Pragma: no-cache
Location: login.php

From this, we have very little to work with.. but it seems that the line: "Location: login.php" is unique to this situation, expired cookie & needs to re-login.

So, failed2= should be this line:

failed2=Location: login.php

After updating the script to use both failed= and failed2=, it seems to be working... if Bit Che's cookie expires, it seems to properly re-login and then resume the search.

alright, this is just a quick, sorta advanced tutorial, on how to attempt to properly set failed and failed2 for a difficult site to work with.. ;)

feel free to ask questions.
