How to enable connection logging in Bit Che:

Note: This should be done if you are having a problem and need to see the specific Winsock/HTTP traffic that Bit Che is sending and receiving.

1. from the Bit Che File menu, select 'Open App Data Folder...'
2. Make a new folder named 'Logs'
3. Open 'settings.ini' and add the line 'debug=3' after '[options]'
4. Then search [the site], and attach the log files here from the '\logs' directory so I can review them

Here is a screenshot showing the new folder (1) and the added line to settings.ini (2):

The Circus Widens In Aftermath of Pirate Bay Verdict
Posted by kdawson on Saturday April 25, @04:19PM

http://news.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=09/04/25/1723222&from=rss

MaulerOfEmotards sends along an in-depth followup, from the Swedish press, of our discussion the other day about the biased trial judge in the Pirate Bay case. "The turmoil concerns Tomas Norström, the presiding judge of The Pirate Bay trial, who is suspected of bias after reports surfaced of affiliation with copyright protection organizations. For this he has been reported to the appeals court (in Swedish; translation here). The circus around the judge is currently focused on three points. First, his personal affiliation with at least four copyright protection organizations, a state the potential bias of which he himself fails to see and refuses to admit. Secondly, Swedish trials use a system of several lay assessors to supervise the presiding judge. One of these, a member of an artists' interest organization, was forced by Mr. Norström to resign from the trial for potential bias. The judge's failure to see the obvious contradiction in this (translation) casts doubts on his suitability and competence. Thirdly, according to professor of judicial sociology Håkan Hydén (translation), the judge has inappropriately 'duped and influenced the lay assessors' during the trial: 'a judge that has decided that "this is something we can't allow" has little problem finding legal arguments that are difficult for assisting lay assessors to counter.'"

« on: March 02, 2009, 02:55:34 am »
Written by Ernesto on March 01, 2009

It’s been a rough week for the RIAA as massive layoffs are about to cost many employees their job. On top of that, the anti-piracy outfit is being sued for abusing the legal system for its war on piracy, civil conspiracy, deceptive trade practices, trespassing and computer fraud.

what do you guys think?

i think it could be very nice, considering also that they are projecting that it will be smaller and lighter than vista, using the same hardware..

Windows 7 is supposed to be released late in 2009 or early 2010.  (last time i checked)..

Computers - Technology / Windows Critical Security Update
« on: October 24, 2008, 03:37:38 am »
A security update was released patching a critical hole in ALL versions of windows..

strongly recommend everyone doing Windows Update (or install just the patch if they are still holding off on automatic updates).

The vulnerability has worm potential for attack code, so this is surely going to get exploited soon by the bad guys.. and like said, *everyone* unpatched is vulnerable.

this is pretty awesome. just found out about it yesterday.. basically, Microsoft will give you 30% back in cash deposited to your paypal account (in 60 days) after you buy something on Ebay using 'Buy It Now' and paying with Paypal. you must also start a search using their sponsored search result from Microsoft Live Search.. see below for an example link..

for the details read:

http://search.live.com/cashback/howToUse

and

http://pages.ebay.com/cashbackoffer/terms.html?_trksid=m37

how to do it:

1. click (sample search, for "ps3"):

http://search.live.com/results.aspx?q=ps3&go=&form=QBLH

2. click the banner (sponsored result) that says:

"PS3 Items - www.ebay.com Live Search cashback  Live Search cashback
Buy PS3 Items. You may get 30% off with PayPal if eligible."

      see screen1.jpg below

3.  You then have 60 minutes to find something you want that has 'Buy Now'..

4. 'Buy It Now' and use Paypal to pay for it (within 60 minutes that you clicked the link)

      see screen2.jpg below

5. Before you complete the payment, Microsoft tell you how much they will give you back.

       see screen3.jpg below

6. They give you 30% of the price in your paypal account after 60 days.

this is crazy!! i got 30% on my $699 purchase... i'll be getting $200 cash back in 60 days..

       see screen4.jpg below

and

       see screen5.jpg below

also, note, that the % in cash back can go up and down.. try different searches for like "nintendo wii" or "gold coins" or "ps3" and you will see different sponsored results on the Live Search (www.live.com) and some of them will be different %'s..  the most is 30%.. but i also did see  20% when i did a search for "nintendo wii".. so click the banner once you found a search result showing 30% cash back.

Computers - Technology / Introducing Geode & The Food Finder!
« on: October 08, 2008, 02:09:50 am »
Geode is a new plugin for Mozilla FireFox that allows location based interation with websites by reading the WiFi signals in your area and then translating them to a physical location..  kinda like GPS, but without the satellites... and kinda like the geo-location you might have seen on your cellphone that uses cellphone tower signals to calculate a location.. but without the cellphone ;)

Unlike normal GPS-based methods which can take upwards of 45 seconds for a lock, Geode works both inside and outside with an accuracy of between 10 to 20 meters, normally within a second.

The potential here is for more than just resturant lookups. For example, imagine an RSS reader that knows the difference between home and work and automatically changes it’s behavior appropriately. Or a news site whose local section is, in fact, actually local. Or Web site authentication that only allows you to login from certain physical locations, like your house.

« on: September 17, 2008, 06:15:00 pm »
here's how it works, click [high five] on on *EVERYONE* who has posted before you to give them a karma point.. its on the left by the users name.. THEN post a reply here saying anything from, hello.. to.. hey, that person above me smells like tuna!

the quicker you post here and have a response about the person above you, the sooner you will get more karma points.

remember: in this message thread, you need to click [high five] on everyone who has posted BEFORE YOU!!

Computers - Technology / Essential - Free Online Backup Software
« on: July 27, 2008, 05:44:32 am »
hey friends... I just wanted to throw out a harmless plug here for an excellent free online backup tool that I have been using. if you currently do not have an online backup solution, then you should definitely look at mozy! you can get free 2gb of space for automatically backing up your documents, pictures, emails, files, etc online. dont worry, they are encrypted so that no one can retrieve the backups but you!

here's a little more about mozy..

With Mozy's "set-it-and-forget-it" design, you'll have more time to spend on other important matters. Enjoy peace of mind in knowing that your data is encrypted and stored in a safe, remote location.

    * Open/locked file support: Mozy will back up your documents whether they're open or closed.
    * 128-bit SSL encryption: The same technology used by banks secures your data during the backup process.
    * 448-bit Blowfish encryption: Secures your files while in storage, providing peace of mind that your private data is safe from hackers.
    * Automatic: Schedule the times to back up and MozyHome does the rest.
    * New and changed file detection: MozyHome finds and saves the smallest changes.
    * Backs up Outlook files: Disaster-proof email protection.
    * Block-level incremental backup: After the initial backup, MozyHome only backs up files that have been added or changed, making subsequent backups lightning fast.

Simple, Automatic, Secure!

https://mozy.com/?ref=WJCMNF

when you sign up (100% free, just create account and download the tiny software), if you click the referral link above then both you and I will receive bonus extra space for backing up files (awesome for both of us!!).

i dont normally endorse products.. but this is free, and backing up your data is essential and online is better than dvds, cds, external harddrives, etc.. so check this one out!!

General Discussion / Bad/Sad News - My Computer = Dead :(
« on: May 16, 2008, 02:22:41 pm »
well.. i woke up this morning, turned on my hp dv2000t laptop only to hear 3 loud beeps and a blank display. no boot up, nothing. just the beeps. my laptop was dead  ???. after a quick search of the internet using my roommates computer, i found out that the beeps are indicating a graphics card error..  1 long beep.. 2 short beeps.

so then i do a little more searching and find out that the hp laptops have a more or less known issue with certain models that the integrated nvidia 7200 ge force mobile graphics card dies after a while. it apparently was such a problem that hp even extended their normal 1 year warranty to 2 years for certain laptops and are replacing the motherboard of affected laptops 100% free of charge. so I called up HP to see if i was eligable to receive the free replacement since obviously I found out I have one of the defective mobo/graphics cards. but here's where I get even more bad news. My particular product model of the dv2000t's product line is NOT included in the list of free extended warranties. AND I bought my laptop about 1.5 years ago. so i'm basically SOL with my laptop. it would cost me a fortune to get the laptop mobo replaced (about the same to just buy a basic desktop machine).

so im a little bummed right now because I dont have extra funds to fix or replace my laptop.. but i wouldnt be able to continue working on my software projects here until i get a machine up and running. :(

so in any case, here's a heads up that I might not be around or online much in the next few weeks. hopefully I can figure this out soon!

oh, and i guess ill be setting up a special donation fund (you can use the normal PayPal one for now) if anyone is kind enough to help donate $20 or whatever towards helping me fix or get a cheap new barebones desktop ($500 or less).

sad friday.  [sad]
