Offbeat Relish / Wildlife birds in the city

Here in Buffalo at the University at Buffalo, officials installed a video cam that gives a live feed of a peregrine falcon and it's hatchlings for the 3rd consecutive year. From time to time I do go to the website and see how the lil ones are progressing. I am a wildlife enthusiast

Computers - Technology / Restore deleted photos from a memory card
« on: May 06, 2011, 01:36:21 am »
If you have a Mac, you can use an app to get back any deleted photos. It will scan your memory card for pictures that it can recover, then you can select the ones that you want to get back and click Save. You can also permanently delete photos that you don't ever want to see again. The app itself has a free demo available.

On Windows, try Data Doctor's recovery apps.

Now just think what law enforcement can do when they confiscate your cams, phones etc..

Gaming / XboX Updates
« on: April 22, 2011, 01:38:13 am »
Hello gamers. My brother owns the XboX, mfd. in 2008. Now I have absolutely no experience with the XboX system and my brother has limited experience.

Now here's our situation, I have burned video files onto a DVD with the .avi and .div extensions and the XboX will not play them and recognizes the disc as a mixed media disc.

Now I went to the website for XboX and there is an update (.zip) for the XboX. I unzipped the file and there is one folder and one file, the folder titled '$systemupdate' and a file titled 'default.exe'. Do I burn as is or do I need to open the folder and burn all the files within along with the 'default.exe' file? Any help is much appreciated.

P.S. The whole reasoning for this is that I am hoping there is a multimedia update within that zip file that will allow the playback of those .avi and .div videos.

General Discussion / Help with .pdf files
« on: April 20, 2011, 04:44:22 am »
I need to know how I can convert a .pdf file (or any image file) to a file that is keyboard accessible.

Let me explain, say I have a questionaire and it is questionaire.pdf, now in order for me to complete said questionaire I would need to print it. How can I open that questionaire and fill in the fields with my keyboard just like I am typing this thread?

I want to save the questionaire (actually a blank invoice) to my desktop and access it anytime, type in the fields and then print. The actual blank invoice will always remain on my desktop until needed again.

Beta collectors waiting with bated breath for a leak

While there have been various minor Windows 8 leaks claimed and reported by various sites, Microsoft has kept a tight lid on its next version of Windows to date.

General Discussion / SUPERMOON
« on: March 20, 2011, 10:38:10 am »
It may not be faster than a speeding bullet, but tonight (March 19, 2011) the moon will make its closest approach to Earth in 18 years—making the so-called supermoon the biggest full moon in years.

The monthly full moon always looks like a big disk, but because its orbit is egg-shaped, there are times when the moon is at perigee—its shortest distance from Earth in the roughly monthlong lunar cycle—or at apogee, its farthest distance from Earth.

Likewise, because the size of the moon's orbit varies slightly, each perigee is not always the same distance away from Earth. Tonight's supermoon will be just 221,566 miles (356,577 kilometers) away from Earth. The last time the full moon approached so close to Earth was in 1993, according to NASA.

Though the supermoon will be about 20 percent brighter and 15 percent bigger than a regular full moon, the visual effect may be subtle, added Anthony Cook, astronomical observer for the Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles.

Here's one of my favourite pics.

And here's a link to some really cool photos: http://www.buzzfeed.com/mjs538/beautiful-pictures-of-the-supermoon-from-around-th

Last week's devastating earthquake and tsunami in Japan has actually moved the island 13ft. closer to the United States and shifted the planet's axis.

The quake caused a rift 15 miles below the sea floor that stretched 186 miles long and 93 miles wide, according to the AP. The areas closest to the epicenter of the quake jumped a full 13 feet closer to the United States, geophysicist Ross Stein at the United States Geological Survey told The New York Times.

By Ben Patterson-

A year after revitalizing the once-sleepy, now red-hot tablet market with the original iPad, Apple surprised absolutely no one Wednesday by taking the wrapper off a slimmer, trimmer version of the wildly popular slate, complete with a front-facing camera for video chat (finally!) and a souped-up processor.

With all the work that chip is doing here I would like to break away from the 'norm.' and find out how many of us are fans of the sport ice-hockey.

Since I live in W.N.Y. I am a fan of the Sabres and since their fighting for that last playoff spot I am curious as to what our members and guest like.

General Discussion / DOCSIS 3
« on: February 09, 2011, 11:09:33 pm »
I'm surprised that you (Synbios) were getting those speeds on a DOC2 modem. When I upgraded to the 30/5 they (roadrunner) provided me with a DOC3 modem and informed me that I had to use theirs as opposed to purchasing my own.

Now I believe Roadrunner provides packages of 50/5 but that just might be here in Western NY.
