Computers - Technology / Jumbled Words in powerpoint 2007
« on: November 28, 2007, 10:56:58 am »
My girlfriend's laptop is having trouble running .ppt's in the new powerpoint.

I just installed a fresh copy of office 2007 pro (the same one i used on my computer). My computer runs everything fine but when i open older powerpoints in compatibility mode on hers, the words fall on top of each other, you can see what i mean in the attached image.

Has anyone ever had this problem before? Any ideas?

P2P - Filesharing / HDbits banned clients
« on: October 11, 2007, 03:54:36 pm »
why does HDbits ban so many clients?

The following clients are banned:
Azureus < 2.4
Bitcomet
Bitlord
BitSpirit
BitsOnWheels
Sharaza
G3
eXeem
Edonkey Plugin
MLDonkey
Transmission < 0.72 & 1.80 & 1.81
Utorrent < 1.6 & 1.7.x (except 1.7.2 and 1.7.5)

What's wrong with them? I'm afraid to ask there. Maybe i'm just missing the obvious reasons.

Music - Movies - TV / [TV] House M.D.

Anyone watch this show? I have seen all the seasons so far, and season 4 just started. Episode 3 is on tonight. So far I don't like how the original characters are gone, but change has got to happen sometime. I'm sure we'll still see them around.

General Discussion / NFL torrents
« on: September 03, 2007, 04:45:30 am »
I don't have cable television and I'm trying to find ways to watch the NFL from my computer. Are there torrents for this kind of stuff around? Streams anywhere?

Thanks

P2P - Filesharing / Problems with uTorrent now - MPAA, etc
« on: August 07, 2007, 11:45:54 am »
This was taken from another tracker site:

Los Angeles - - BitTorrent Founder and CEO Bram Cohen and Motion Picture Association of America, Inc. (MPAA) Chairman and CEO Dan Glickman announced today that the motion picture industry and BitTorrent, Inc. are collaborating with the goal of inhibiting film piracy. Bram Cohen developed a revolutionary technology for websites to make large content files available on the Web and that technology is often used by others illegally to distribute movies and television shows. Today Cohen confirmed BitTorrent, Inc.’s commitment to removing links that direct users to copies of pirated content owned by MPAA companies from its search engine at BitTorrent.com. The announcement today is historic in that two major forces in the technology and film industries have agreed to work together and proactively identify ways to l and to promote constructive innovation in this area.
This is Bram Cohen, the creator of the BitTorrent protocol, and Ludvig (Ludde) Strigeus, the writer of µTorrent.

Together, we are pleased to announce that BitTorrent, Inc. and µTorrent AB have decided to join forces. BitTorrent has acquired µTorrent as it recognized the merits of µTorrent's exceptionally well-written codebase and robust user community. Bringing together µTorrent's efficient implementation and compelling UI with BitTorrent's expertise in networking protocols will significantly benefit the community with what we envision will be the best BitTorrent client.
Response from sysop to this post:

"Yeah I'm afraid it is. Ludde has sold out as it were. Also 1.7 is the first build to be written with the new dev team that was added when Bram bought him out. I've heard that many are simply not allowing anything 1.7 on. Also for the curious out there. 1.7 had a bad habit of mis reporting stats. That bug has supposed to have been fixed in ver. 1.7.1. However atm I only have their word that it has, and I don't think I trust them to much. That is to say, at all.

Think i'll be sticking with 1.6.1 or changing over to a stable/safer client myself. Anyone know if **** is, or will be accepting ver. 1.7.1 as a valid client? To me if you can get past the moral implications your still dealing with a closed source client that may have issues. The least of which is the possibility it's reporting your stats wrong. Sad to see Utorrent go out this way."

I think I might be getting another BT client now...

For all those who have Oink.Me, how do you keep your ratios up when most torrents have hundreds of seeds and barely any leechers?

Computers - Technology / A quad PC to it's full potential
« on: June 24, 2007, 04:16:16 am »
Just a few months ago I put together a new computer with a QX6700 core 2 extreme (quad) and 4 gigs of ram. I haven't really seen the advantage of all this though.

I'm running 64bit vista and it's always using all 4 gigs. I have no 64bit programs, and most programs don't use all the cores. Does anyone have any 64bit programs or games? Or any programs that are multithreaded and can use multiple cores?

I know everything will eventually be 64bit, but at this point it's a total waste.

I am so disappointed in this CD. I started to grow onto it, but even after that I turned on Meteora and that sounded like a masterpiece.

General Discussion / In search of a new media player
« on: May 04, 2007, 11:26:03 am »
I'm looking for a new media player. I'm a long time user of windows media player, but I am very disappointed with where it is heading now (the new version is HORRIBLE)

The new version doesn't show the artists and tracknames like it used to, never tells you the length of a playlist, and the entire playlist system is messed up in general, nevermind the fact that it uses TONS of resources.

I really like the setup of itunes. But I want something clean and to the point with none of those crap ipod running processes in the background and iTunes helper.

I hate winamp too. It's too small.

Anybody know a player similar to itunes? Or a site that has some reviews of some of the unknown media players?
