Haha, cool, probably just about the point where I'm tipping over to Intel as well. But yeah, for that price range, there's not a massive difference between Intel or AMD, no matter what the fanboys tell you.

With a bit of luck though you should have a good upgrade path this Christmas when their Agena CPUs come out (new architecture).
actually..for that kind of money I couldn't get intel based CPU with the similar specs for my PC here in Indonesia. :)

Btw, will this new Agena use the same AM2 socket or it will use a brand new one?
maybe you can help a bit with some info links? thanks before Quantum :)

There will be a new socket called AM2+, you will be able to use either that one or the AM2 one, but there will be minor power performance benefits if you use AM2+.

You will need a BIOS update though. AMD are saying it will perform 25 - 55% better than Intels current lot, clock for clock. But we'll have to wait and see really. Barcelona is the name of the server architecture, Agena is the name of the Desktop architecture. I get most my news from here: http://anandtech.com

Here's a couple of random articles on the state of AMD:

http://anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/showdoc.aspx?i=2986
http://anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/showdoc.aspx?i=2939

Recent benchmarks of the latest architecture have been a little worrying, but they were in a pretty bad set-up (hardware provided by a partner and not actually AMD and massive BIOS issues).

Oh yeah, I've heard about that Barcelona. Well, I hope AMD will get this one proc better than iIntel does.
I like AMD coz I get the value for the performance :)

PS:when I use everest 2007 to benchmark my PC, I only lose from Intel's Xeon or Extreme Edition  ;D ::)

A little of a worrying (well maybe not) update when it comes to AMD:

http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=7890

Barcelona is only going to come out at a maximum of 2 GHz, this said I've heard that they've struggled with getting Barcelona at higher speeds because of issues to do with it needing to be in a server environment, apparently the Desktop CPUs aren't suffering the same issue. Also there's a huge market for lower power x86/64 CPUs that run at a completetive speed, so this might be a good move by AMD anyway.

That's my take on it, but no way to know until we see things come out and how they do, don't bother reading the comments on the article, they are all very fanboyish.
