I actually disagree Kapersky definatly one of the best.. For shear usage and pliable protection it equals Zonealrm but with better antvirus. I agree that most only need AGV or similar but if you comit to loads of Internet time and rarely reboot, then you need somthing that will keep your machine protected 247.

Grin most of us need at least 5 hours sleep per night, and schedule our antivirus to run at a specific time. Unless you are downloading music/videos 365 days per year 24/7, NOD32or AVG is more than adequate.
cheers

Interesting When was the last time you ever had a virus infected music/video file I'm not saying it can't be done its just vary uncommon to come across a live one in the real world.

saying substandard virus checkers like NOD32 or AVG are more than adequate is pure stupidity.

I Spend a lot of time in the dark places where Virii lurk and catch between 3 & 10 a week that are missed by Kaspersky.
Kaspersky Virus labs work 24/7 when these virii are submitted there is normally a fix within 2 hours, if you submit it at the right time its in the next hourly update, with NOD32 or AVG you would be lucky to get them within a week.

I've never gotten a virus from music/video.........But I've also haven't ever dowloaded a song on a P2P network that has a result of a song which the file size is 3 kb instead of 5,000 kbs........Mainly have gotten the couple from progs/apps/bad cracks.........

But saying that Nod32 and AVG aren't adequate is B.S...........The typical internet user isn't in "Dark Places".........
Spending alot of time in these "dark places" is the problem not the virus scanner you have........

You also used "normally", "you would be lucky", those are your personal opinion and nowhere near fact..........

I've already read an older article that rated Kap higher than nod32 than rated Nod32 with the best heuristic testing with Kap not even cracking the top ten........One site rated Nod-32 as the best expert virus scanner and rated Kap as best overall scanner, which than it stated that Nod-32 is as good or possibly better but users find it harder to use Nod-32......
I could post links from good sources where each of their opinions will contradict each other but I see no point in it.........I would end up with hundreds of links by the time I was done, but it would accomplish absolutely nothing besides giving free advertisments to the websites/antivirus proggies

This topic is turning into like trying decide if a green apple is more of an apple than a red apple for the entire human race.........Either way, their both apples and it depends on your decision of how you feel they taste or how someone else feels how it tastes.........

There is no absolute here besides your needs and likes..........If you need simplicity, if you need 24/7 virus updates, your browsing habits, if your p2p'n, what your familar with is going to help you choose, etc,etc.........

Grin  As MinLo has just said it is mainly down to personal choice. Even the average Nividea card gives you some protection. Why do you need all this protection? Because the manufacturers need to make money. My antivirus is better than yours, please read our edited reports.lol
I basically use all the free programmes on the net.Never had any problems with downloads etc.
So Nod32/Zone alarm free firewall which are auto updated plus an occassional run of SpyBot (free) does the trick.
Most of our ISP servers have protection in place before it reaches us.
If a member thinks norton/kapersky/nod32/avg free is the best.So be it.
Again personal choice.

As an update to this. We all have PC`s which have to have an ISP(Internet Service Provider) Our PC`s have an unique IP address. In order to reach other web sites we go through our ISP who relays info back to us from that web site. Our IP address is known to our server and they constantly change this . So why do we need all this protection when our ISP is doing the job for us?  A little peace of mind  with our free programmes and something to do on a slack nite.lol

To me as I game alot I need something small, but yet effective, so AVG free is the winner for me in all things: Free, fast, small, daily updates (so quite reliable) and not too much in draining resources unlike McAfee and Norton and such
