Ever run into an RAR Movie File with a Password?
« on: March 15, 2010, 11:43:47 am »
I am new here but got Bit Che recommended to me from Onebigtorrent.com.  I have used it for some good files and I have had a few bad files on popular movies.  The movies I pick usually have the highest number of seeders.  Is there a better way to pick a file?  How do you know whether or not you have one of those rip off files.  I googled the password RAR  and everyone I read recommended deleting the RAR because it would have had viruses.  I could never go through the BS surveys anyway.

Anyway, you guys are doing a good job here.  I like P2PWorlds, Demonoid, XtremeTV.org, Onebigtorrent.org, Pirate Bay and all the places that are seeding with no conditions.

I run a Velocity Micro desktop with Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q9650 @ 3.00GHz; 8.00 Gb of RAM; 64-bit Vista Home Premium; NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260 video cards x 2 running in SLI; a WD 300Gb HDD (10K rpm) and a 1Tb HDD (7200 rpm).  Everything is connected to a TrippLite Omni VS1500 UPS System - Line interactive UPS.

I hoard files so I'm always looking for more storage space.  I've decided to buy 1 or 2TB drives and use an USB/eSata bay docking station for 2.5" & 3.5" SATA HDD's for storing files.  I am open to a better idea for storage if anyone has an idea.  Looking for a host that can give me 2Mb/s up and download.

No good, always go to a file with no password! You may be linked to a website that ask for a charge card number or a double back IP tracker. No I say.

Any RAR file that is passworded is NOT the file you think it is anyway. Any attempts to crack the password, or receive a legitimate password by "paying" or "downloading" extra software are fruitless and should be avoided. If you have a passworded RAR file, delete it immediately no matter how bad you want the thing that you "think" is inside.

I often encounter RAR archives with passwords both in the bittorrent world and off download servers like rapidshare etc.
They are legitimate good quality archives from reputable seeders.

In the case of sourcing from a download server the password is usually in the description text from where you get rar-file links from.
For bittorrent - right-click on the bit-Che search result entry and surf to the source page. There you should see the description text and often feedback comments as well. Look for the password there!
ThePirateBay is usually very good for these.

Viruses are 99% of the time contained in software install.exe or setup.exe files, where the suspect made a 'wrapper' around the original .exe file which unpacks and executes the virus before unpacking the original.
Any good antivirus shoud detect this and give a warning either when the .exe file is 'un-rar'ed' and/or when you run it.

i usually run the keygen in sandboxie sandbox  (though some virii malware writers set their app not executive in a vm environment) or install and test the program within a vmware operating system (harddisk set to nonpersistent)

on the host pc, run rollback rx or wondershare time machine along with some frequently updated antivirus like avira, avast

This also works with videos spread over multiple RAR files. If you're ever in a situation where you have a video in an RAR file.

but you'll need the first and last part of the file completely downloaded.

There are many softwares which break the password of a rar file using brute force method .
Try those softwares, it is time consuming but sure will do the trick.
Note: you can use this method only if there is not restriction on number of attempts you can do to open file .
