PC crashes...
« on: March 31, 2011, 12:38:43 pm »
I,m trying to fix a PC for my niece. I formatted and installed XP pro from my Genuine Advantage CD. everything installed ok but the audio driver. I downloaded Realtek AC 97 driver, but when I try to install, the PC crashes. I d/l the driver from my (paid for ) Driver Detective programme. Driver detective does not have a similar driver.

any ideas guys???

PS..the PC is a Packard Bell.

A packard bell! Must be ancient. I used to have one of those back in '94.

Have you checked the specs of the computer to make sure it has a Realtek audio card? See if you can find a spec sheet for it somewhere so you can get the exact model of the audio card it has.

That Packard Bell  [LOL!] my bad. That Packard Bell is an OEM machine and you may want to use the Factory Restore CD's and if you no longer have them do some research via Google and download them. Then you may upgrade to WinXP.
