Mac OS X El Capitan + Wine + Bit Che = frustration
« on: March 01, 2016, 03:29:47 am »
I recently upgraded to El Capitan and was surprised to find that Bit Che and another Wineskin app were not working. I upgraded to Bit Che 3.5 v.30 and the latest (El Capitan compliant) Wineskin engine and wrappers, and created a shiny new wrapper for Bit Che.

Except Bit Che seems unable to access the internet. I have checked the settings, checked the firewall permissions on my Mac and modem/router. But I still get log files full of the following types of entries:

I'm pretty inept at coding. Any suggestions or help would be appreciated. I love Bit Che and hope to be able to resume using it soon. Thanks.

It looks like winetricks was having issues a week ago or so and was failing to install winhttp (https://github.com/Winetricks/winetricks/issues/615)

Couple ideas,

A. Do you have winetricks? Try this command:  'winetricks winhttp'

B. It sounds like you could try reinstalling the wine environment.

C. Does Bit Che still say that it detects the 'wine'? It's shown in the status bar on start up. If not, then something is broken and needs to be fixed.

Thanks for the advice! Sorry it took me so long to reply.

OK. I've tried a number of things. First, I made sure my WineTricks was up to date. Then I tried the command: "winetricks winhttp" as you suggested. No luck. Same problem.

Bit Che appears to detect Wine. Wine appears in the status bar on start up.

I tried uninstalling Wineskin Winery and reinstalling. No luck. I uninstalled it again.
I tried installing Wine Bottler and Bit Che. No luck. I uninstalled again.
I even tried installing a demo version of Crossover with Bit Che. No luck.
I have also tried turning off the Mac firewall.
I have made sure that Bit Che and Wine have firewall permissions.

I'm a bit baffled. When I click "About" Bit Che, or "Check for version update", or "Check for driver updates" (or whatever the exact text it. I think you know what I mean) There appears to be a brief burst of network traffic, and then a pause of several seconds, followed by another brief burst. It goes on like this until Bit Che times out on the connection.

It's strange, because I have another Wine wrapper running a Windows application. It's called VZ Connect and it's a freeware VOIP voicemail operator program. It's not giving me any problems with Wine or OS X El Capitan. So I'll kee trying and let you know how it goes.

Any additional suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi chip,

New findings on this subject, I have tried 2 ways of making this work:
1.- Through Wineskin directly on Mac
2.- Running on a container with wine installed over Ubuntu 18.04

Both ways I get the same behaviour, no internet connectivity or so it seems, because when I install Notepad++ in the same container I can install its plugins with no issues

Instead when I try to register, update or simply search for a torrent file I get an error as per attached screenshot

Based on the error message, could it be that the application is expecting other interface or naming?

Best regards
