BERLIN (Reuters) - SanDisk Corp. (SNDK.O: Quote, Profile, Research) will bring a $100 MP3 music player onto the market in October with a capacity of 2 gigabytes, enough to hold about 1,000 songs, the company said on Saturday.
SanDisk, which is a distant second to Apple (AAPL.O: Quote, Profile, Research) in the digital music player market, said the Sansa c200 would retail for a recommended $99.99 in the United States and about 79 euros ($101) in Europe -- the two markets where it will first launch.
The new Sansa will be compatible with Microsoft's (MSFT.O: Quote, Profile, Research) Windows PlayForSure, meaning it will be able to download music from online subscription companies including RealNetworks Inc.'s (RNWK.O: Quote, Profile, Research) Rhapsody, Napster (NAPS.O: Quote, Profile, Research) and Yahoo! (YHOO.O: Quote, Profile, Research) Music.
The thin, lightweight player has an LCD color screen and a slot for an additional memory card, which can expand its capacity for more tunes, SanDisk told a news conference at the IFA consumer electronics trade show in Berlin.
There will also be a 1-gigabyte version, which will sell for a recommended $79.99.
Both are also capable of displaying pictures.
SanDisk is the world's leading maker of flash memory data storage cards, which are used in digital cameras and mobile phones as well as MP3 players.

Yeah I want one too!
Well actually I want a 60GB iPod but the amount that costs over the use it would get is not worth it...unless I can grab a 1GB iPod Nano for $150 again... actually even this is better value than that.

Prices! Can pick a 2GB mp3 player in the local store for that price now. A 2GB iPod Nano is now the same price as a 20GB Apple iPod... I really don't get this... why would you buy the nano?

i bought the zune and im really happy with it.... i guess it was cheaper for me since my 30gb ipod was stolen and my roommates ended up helping to pitch in for a new player for me, instead of a replacement 30gb ipod i went with the zune and i honestly have been
really happy i did
. then again, i dont understand why you would want an mp3 player that has less than at least 20-30gb... i still have a panasonic player with a 1gb SD card that apparently is still the worlds smallest SD player which is impressive that its over 4 years old, and it has a screen and playlist controls and is about 2cm width X 2cm height and .5cm thin.. lasts ~12hrs with the battery, but the ipod with its capacity was the major factor in me picking one of those up 1.5 years ago.. and when it was stolen, i was so used to using a mp3 with larger capacity that i didnt want to use the panasonic anymore... so i guess i dont really understand why people are happy with <20gb cellphones or players unless you do not care about caring a decent library of music around with you where ever you go.. i for one could never be happy with less than 1,000 songs at any given moment.. but then again, i have the most eclectic taste in music which demands a huge library

You get a good price for it? I've actually never used a large capacity mp3 player that isn't an iPod so what's different about it?
edit: Ok I looked around, and because the Zune hasn't really been intoduced here much, for the price it's selling at I can pick up a 80GB iPod for it
Actually it's about $150AUD cheaper to buy a Zune from Amazon.com!
