server migration coming soon
« on: March 27, 2007, 06:15:50 am »
okay so its been about 2 years, and my host will be migrating my account to a different server because my account needs to be updated.

same specs on the server hardware, but my account will allow me a little more flexibility, also the SQL server (which runs the database here) will be on a dedicated server cluster.. which is good.  also, the new server is in a different datacenter.. I believe New Jersey instead of Atlanta. Georgia..  which means it should be better connected to Europe. i did a bunch of trace routes to both the old server and the new one and I got better ping times for every country I tested except for China, and also my own ping is slightly higher.. haha, but I can live with it as long as the server as whole is more stable i'll be happy.

so in any case, please dont be alarmed if we experience any problems in the next 24-72 hours or so as the migration takes place. everything should be backed up so i'm not worried about losing anything, but there might be some random issues with SQL errors until I am able to go update all of the "scripts" (including Bit Che - Guevara Edition registration/unlocking) to use the new SQL servers...

thanks for understanding.
-chip

also, if anyone wants to test their pings:
dietk.com  (old datacenter)
hostingzoom.com  (new datacenter)

today i noticed the nameservers were responding with the old IP address.. which means if you tried to come to the forums for the past few hours you might have ended up at the old server and received the message that the board was in maintance mode.  i contacted support and they fixed the issue right away for me, so hopefully you all will be arriving back at the right server soon, once the DNS resolves again..  :)

Dont know if its me or new server, but I am getting more and more messages saying I.E. cannot display. But usually hitting refresh brings it back on. For example, Made a new thread and posted, error window from I.E. but after refresh, post was actually on the forum board. This occurs only on Convivea. Also get message that I have timed out while posting
Maybe nothing, but thought I`d mention.
cheers

Still doing the same as of 12th (today)

interesting.. thanks for letting me know. i havent been experiencing these problems, but i wonder if it has anything to do with the time of day. for me it seems that the pages load up quicker. in any case, keep an eye on this and if it doesnt heal itself somehow, i might need to make some more changes :)

moved convivea.com to a new host, we were outgrowing the last one.. hopefully its a little bit more stable and faster now.

if not, i might have to move to a more expensive hosting solution in the future.. but for now, im hoping everything is fast and speedy for everyone :)

I hope all these donations are paying for it...

dunno if this has anything to do with it but my Avatar wouldn't load (hosted on the forum) because I didn't have permission to upload to that folder... something like that. (I've externally hosted it now)

I don't know who your with Chip, but a forum I am on, is a huge forum, very active and flows constantly all day, but it only costs them $100 per year.  They have changed hosts a few times, but are happy now where they are.  They tried a couple of USA sites, then a couple of Aussie sites, now back in the US.  I can find out for you if you like.

sure cissie, if you want, you could PM me the forum name and I could trace it back to its host.. i wouldnt mind looking at some other hosts.  this new one seems to be VERY fast for me, but not sure about the rest of you guys?

anyone else notice any page loading differences between now and a few days ago?  (faster, or slower?)
