My new project

   Well here I go again. another new pc. Highly discounted on original prices. Bought the parts today but will take me a few days to assemble. Would appreciate your comments.

my daughter has given me her PC, and all peripherals, inc flat screen monitor, it's less than 12 months old, and hardly used. she is updating to a laptop because she needs the room for her baby who is expected to be born in September.
she wants all her personal data taken off, and saved, i want to do this for her, but i'm not sure how. Cheryl said she will buy a plug in thingy, and save it all, but i want to do it for her if i can, because she is very busy.
you all know what a PC dummy I am, so can anybody point me to the simplest way of doing it? my personal grattitude, and Karma points could be forthcoming. (now that Chip has fixed his Karma point blunder he he he)

All her personal data easily removed. as Danny says, give us a shout when you get set up. I`m sure you will be able to go through My Documents/pictures etc and delete as necessary. You will also have to delete User Accounts and make yourself Administrator. Would also advise you to delete previous System Restore points as if you have to restore to earlier time/date it may bring her personal stuff back on PC. (if you need help pls shout).Also Control Panel add and remove any of her personal programs. That is after you save her wanted data.lol If its not too much then the little USB memory sticks at 4-8GB`s are handy.

As for my new project. Managed to sneak all the new bits and pieces into house tonight, so will be able to start assembly shortly.Got the nod from most of the computer forums with one comment that I could have used a slightly better Mobo/chip. But its more than enough for me(Granda Gamer. )

  After updating BIOS and all the drivers I am getting a bench mark on 3D mark 6 of 9554  which is excellent for the set up. So all in all very pleased with results without overclocking.
Did someone mention overclocking? He He . Can bring the FSB up to 1333 without much trouble. CPU under load during test stayed about 34 deg(had added extra fan). CPU fan running at 850rpm or less..
And Billy if your listening that case we both have "Coolermaster Elite 320 is brilliant. Love the way the front just pops off to install fan. Sata HDD and PIONEER Sata DVD/CD optical drive are so much faster than the IDE drives. Got my lot flashing those blue led lights Thought I was back in Manchester.lol

No, they are not. HDDs and DVD/CD drives don't yet have a high enough I/O to make the technical specifications of SATA any more useful than that of IDE. However, new hard drives which are a bit faster, bit quiter, more reliable and have higher platter density tend to be SATA based, so if you've got one of those then it'd be very good, but it's not really to do with that it's SATA.

Point taken Quantum. Running 160GB Hitachi s-ata 7200rpm.
Messing around very slowly, running cpu at 2.56 ghz(2,33ghz stock),fsb slightly over 1400, temps went up to 38deg for cpu and33 for mobo.(stock intel heatsink) will change if temps get too high.
3D benchmark now up to 10,714. Havent touched the 8800gt yet.

Upped the CPU TO 15%  2.683GHZ fsb 1533 (766x2) very stable so far. temp up to 40-41deg. Can you recommend a good heatsink cooler  for core2 duo ?

To be honest, you should be able to push it to 3 GHz without too much trouble. However I'd be careful to run extensive tests like 2 Prime95 torture tests running on each core for several hours.

There are a myriad of good Core2 heatsinks, the best is the Thermalright 120 Extreme, but you need to really buy a very good 12 CM fan to go with. Another fantastic one is the Noctua NH-U12P.

Looking through the comments the Freezer 7 Pro wins hands down. I have two of them in use ,and although somewhat large,they do the job.Will check out Thermalright.

To do this I had to buy a audio extension lead off ebay (99p + postage £1.26p) I thought 'bugger the expense, it's worth it' so you see Tex, yer not the only one doing a 'major project'.

Built in speakers make me sad 

Their quality is so low, I got shinny new Z4 logitech 2.1 speakers this year as a birthday present, I've not been able to hit maximum volume on them and my computer playing something loud because it hurts my ears so much!

And the quality remains fantastic at any volume, it's really got me in to high quality audio files which you couldn't really tell the difference before on standard PC speakers.
