General Discussion / Something random for thought - 2010 or 2000 & 10?
« on: March 20, 2009, 07:59:11 pm »
Apparently what will happen in 2010 is that people will stop calling it 'two thousand and x' and call it 'twenty x'

So instead of 'two thousand and ten' people will call it 'twenty ten'. This all came about because 2000 is easier said as 'two thousand' rather than the usual 'twenty hundred' (think, 1900). Then, 2001 - 'two thousand (and) one' is still quicker to say that 'twenty oh one' and therefore this continues until 2010.

Right now people will still call the year 'two thousand and ten' but experts (don't ask me to reference) say that this will die out in favour of 'twenty ten' and will continue. They (they say a lot don't they? [yes they do]) say that after some time people will go back to this naming system for all the years, so you will say 'ninteen seventy three' 'twenty sixty four' and 'twenty oh nine' without even thinking that you used to say 'two thousand and nine' when it was 2009.

What do you think? After a thought (but not for too long) I agree with this, and am starting to try and adapt by saying 'twenty ten' already.

Oh and a thought, the movie 2012 I'm already hearing referred to 'twenty twelve' so maybe this is all a subconcious thing? But then again, if you ask someone what year it will be 50 years from now they usually reply 'two thousand and fifty nine'.

General Discussion / Free streaming sports games
« on: March 18, 2009, 03:12:16 pm »
I've talked about the streaming P2P stuff, like TV Ants, etc, but I've recently found a site that will stream (or at least link to a stream) of all current live sports events.

I've been looking for the Arsenal football games online since I live in Australia and some aren't shown on TV here, and found a great site for all the Arsenal games with various streams (http://goonerstreams.com/) but while I was there and one of the games weren't working I was given a link to
http://www.mixlivetv.com/
and have used it a couple of times since.

I've never actually watched anything other than football matches on it, but there seems to be all kinds of things, American Football, Hockey, Basketball, Baseball, Rugby.

I think there aren't any links on right now because the games are either over or not going to start for a few hours. Anyway if you go to that site when the game is about to start you will see a link. I've found it very useful.

And for Billy & Tex - it has a streaming link to ManUn.tv and Chelsea.tv (you guys probably already have this).

Music - Movies - TV / Lie To Me
« on: March 16, 2009, 08:09:10 pm »

I'm always interested in analysing people and the way they do things, my friends say if I wasn't making films/videos I should be a psychiatrist (note: I would hate this), and so when I heard about this show I was really interested.

Having seen the Mentalist afterwards, I can say it is NOT like this at all, it is focused on the analysing, not the, hey this guy can read your mind, look at the weird stuff he does, things. The Mentalist is interesting, but doesn't captivate me, but I really like Lie to Me. It's still a bit obvious, the expressions I mean, because of course they are acting that expression rather than genuinely being surprised, etc, but is getting better with each episode, so hopefully they should leave the analysing up to you and reveal at the end soon. It's getting near to that now anyway.

Anyone else seen it? I think it's on Fox in America, and getting decent ratings, some say this is because it's being played after American Idol, others say it's because it's on the same time as Lost (I personally really like Lost and watch both shows). Either way, it doesn't look like it's going to be one of those 'decent shows that get cancelled early'. It's basically being promoted as Fox's answer to House MD.

General Discussion / Short Film
« on: October 08, 2008, 02:44:00 pm »
Just realised that you guys haven't actually seen any of my work. Whether or not you're interested is another matter! But here is the latest short film I have made anyway (youtube is a terrible way to watch films but hey it's easy to get it across the world).
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z8O-piqPcXA

Shooting live stuff + music vids for bands at the moment so won't be making another film until April/May next year.

Just thought I'd see what you think  [couchhide]

(sorry couldn't resist with the ridiculous title)

Well I'm sure most here have heard by now, but in case you didn't:
http://www.informationweek.com/news/showArticle.jhtml?articleID=206800463

Toshiba has formally announced the end of HD DVD, meaning the Blu-ray has now become the successor to DVD.

Don't think Quantum will be happy but I sure am  :)

Music - Movies - TV / [MOVIE] No Country for Old Men
« on: January 05, 2008, 05:39:57 pm »
Ok now this is tipped as the best picture winner at various awards in the coming months... I'm not so sure I would give it that much credit, but it's definitely interesting.

Breaking the top 20 of the IMDb Top 250 was enough for me to go and see this film, although I did feel that it was being robitically voted '10' rather than actually thought about, but hey I'm glad I saw it. The acting was superb, and the Coen brothers once again utilise their knowledge of 'the south' well, and use the outback Texas feel once again. The assassin (won't even try to spell his name) was a very interesting character and the tension was great... not too often I'm sitting on the edge of my seat with my heart pounding in the cinema these days, but when he's after someone, I certainly felt that way! The only critique I really have of this movie is the ending. I can understand why (for two reasons - one being that's how the novel ends) and it was interesting, I just felt that it came to a bit of an abrupt stop. Perhaps the dialogue could have been slowed and used as a voice over... or perhaps that's too cliché, anyway the "WHAT THE F" followed by nervous laughter in the cinema (yes I had some Fast and Furious lovers in that cinema too) shows that I wasn't the only one to think of the ending this way, but it's something to think about.

I haven't seen a movie in which the characters are developed as well as they are here in a while and for that I give it praise.

Music - Movies - TV / [MOVIE] I Am Legend
« on: January 05, 2008, 05:31:52 pm »
Well I saw this a couple of days ago and I must say I really enjoyed it. The people in the cinema with me were a bunch of IDIOTS (not to mention the idiotic comments... some person near the front BROUGHT THEY KID (aged 1-3) into the cinema! WTF) but it didn't distract too much.

I know it wasn't much like the novel but I really felt that it was really good to see a character based zombie movie (?!). It's not about ZOMBIES MUST DIE but more about the internal struggle between Will Smith's character and his surroundings. Really well acted too (although just because the words 'Will Smith' appear in the film I'm sure there will be someone who will not agree  ::))

I dunno if anyone's going to read these little reviews... but I think I'm going to write them about new movies that I see anyway. ttfn

Music - Movies - TV / THE STRIKE
« on: December 02, 2007, 11:02:40 pm »
So after TV series like Lost, 24, Prison Break, etc have said they are being affected by the writer's strike, movies such as Angels & Demons and Shantaram (plus many others) are now being pushed back because of writer's strike.

Now I don't live in America so I don't really know the extent of it, but how bad is it really over there?

Or does no one actually care?  ::)

P2P - Filesharing / P2P TV
« on: October 30, 2007, 10:44:56 pm »
I'm trying to watch some football matches that are not on satellite TV where I am, and so I am testing out some P2PTV stuff, namely sopcast. Does anyone have any experience in this? The theory is awesome but the programs still have a little while to go.

This site was also useful

Music - Movies - TV / [Movie] Michael Clayton
« on: October 08, 2007, 11:38:13 pm »
Ok haven't posted about many movies in a while, so I thought I'd get a topic on this film. It is getting good reviews and I shall read them no further! Out here next week (as is wide release in the USA). I'm definitely going to see it, is anyone else?

And Spiderman 3 was terrible  ::)

So was Rush Hour 3!

I guess people are now going to think that this is my favourite movie or something...
edit: Also because it's a James Ellroy novel... so will be a crime story most likely in the past... and even my images will relate to it  ::)

General Discussion / Hello Again
« on: August 04, 2007, 12:53:52 pm »
Hello everyone

Just to explain - for the last two months I've been on a holiday in NZ so I haven't been on the forum once...

Thought I'd mention it!

What's happening?  :)

Alright, I have noticed lately IE popping up randomly with ads and figured something was up.
I've scanned Spybot and deleted anything that came up, scanned NOD32 but it was all fine. Looked up HiJackthis and deleted anything I thought looked suspicious (although, I'm not that much of an expert so could have missed something) but never the less, I get 2 iexplore.exe 's in the processes running all the time. In my process manager I tried to delete it there (usually works when task manager doesn't) but it still comes up by itself, piggy backing off an exe I can't find. It's annoying because it's using up quite a bit of memory, and uses about 70% of the CPU for about 10 seconds when I kill its process.

I don't know if you've heard about any of this before, I tried searching around but couldn't find anything that helped.

If no one knows what it is I could post my HiJack this and start from there?

Any help would be appreciated

NWM
