Installed the Vista TCP Patch / Bit Che Stops Working
« on: September 27, 2008, 02:31:33 pm »
I installed the Vista TCP Limit Patch, now Bit Che stops performing searches.

When I attempt to perform a search, the list of connected sites at the bottom dwindles down to nothing in about 3 seconds.  Attempting to update the scripts displays "Connection aborted due to timeout or other error" in less than 1 second.

I'm not having problems in any other program.

Is there a work around for this or is it s bug?

Thanks,
Doug

Hi Doug,

Could you please tell us what version Vista and of Bit Che are you running 1.59 or 1.60, and possibly where you download the Bit Che software from such as Cnet.com or another authorized web site. Have you done anything else removal and reinstall Bit Che or ?? This may help us in finding what the problem is for you sooner.

Thank you for your patience,
Fuzzy

I'm using 1.60 Guevara Edition.  I downloaded it from CNet, and reinstalled twice.

Before I installed the Vista patch, my searches were taking 10 or 15 minutes because of the half-open connection limit.

Hi Doug,

This was posted in "Fixed Bugs & Filled Requests" so our Moderators that do the bug issues probably haven't seen this yet, I'm kinda confused though with the Cnet.com download is a older 1.59 and there is no authorized "Guevara Edition" that can be downloaded. The Guevara is thru a donation of $5.00 or doing some forum script work or a gift from the administration or a moderator.

I hope this wasn't some zip file available from some torrent site.

Regards,
Fuzzy

That's a good point, but I can't be more specific (too much to remember).  I can tell you I originally downloaded it from download.com (CNET), that I actually made a $5.00 donation (from admin [at ]dougware.net) and that now I'm running 1.60.  I received my donation ID e-mail on Jul 8th, 2008.

I'm sorry if I can't be more help about where the update came from.

Thanks for moving my post, I hadn't realized I posted it into the wrong forum.

I haven't seen/tried the TCP patch, but its possible that something gets messed up with the tcpip.sys and then mswinsock..

reset winsock / tcpip (but should not undo with your patch, since its not replacing the .sys file), run these at command prompt, as a administrator:

netsh winsock reset
netsh int ip reset

re-register mswinsck.ocx, run at command prompt, as a administrator::

regsvr32 mswinsck.ocx

vb6 runtimes:

i'll try to dig into this more, maybe even try the patch myself  :-\

also, please run the attached debug.exe, clicking the first 4 buttons, and then press the copy button, and send it to me as a Private Message.

that might actually help figure out the problem a little better..

OK - dougware.. got your PM... thanks..

everything seems normal, file versions are all loaded correctly, winsock ocx interface is correct, and both TCP and UDP test/dummy connections passed. so theoretically, bit che should be working too.

so next thing on the list to explore, what firewalls and security software (antivirus, antispyware, etc) do you run?  the more detail on that the better..

and finally, lets do a winsock data capture of bit che:

http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/socketsniff.zip

1. download and extract socketsniff.zip
2. open bit che
3. open socketsniff.exe
4. select bit_che.exe process
5. go to the SocketSniff options menu, and check 'Show Empty Send/Receive Calls'
6. do a Bit Che update check  (About menu, Check for Updates)
7. select the first TCP connection in the SocketSniff list, this should be the update check. in the bottom window pane, you should see the data, select all that and copy it to notepad/etc and save it.
8. then goto View, and select HTML Report - All Items.. this will generate a simple report.html
9. send me both the report.html and the data saved above to notepad..

note, i dont need to actual .html file if you want to export that data as a .txt by doing CNTRL-A, CNTRL-S.. doesnt matter to me.

thanks,
chip

 :-[

Sorry guys, it appears it was an issue with my DD-WRT based router instead of my vista system.  I started noticing that my wireless was not working last night, so I cleared the NVRAM and reconfigured my router.

Although I was able to surf the web and do everything else before the reset, something about Bit Che didn't play well with it.  I can confirm this because it wasn't working from my laptop either, but it worked fine from another internet connection.

Now everything is back to normal....

Thanks for the help and I apologize for the mistake...

Doug

The TCP/IP patch is useless on Windows Vista. Even if you patch it, it won't do a single thing like it does on XP.

I've heard the same remarks made, but my evidence doesn't support that.

Before the patch even with uTorrent set to 6 half open connections, web pages may take 30-60 seconds to start to load
uTorrent speeds were VERY slow
Firefox downloads would take 30-60 seconds to connect and start downloading
Bit Che searches would take as long as 5 minutes to complete

If I shut down uTorrent and waited a couple of minutes, all of these side effects would go away.

After installing the Vista TCP patch, even with uTorrent half open connections set to 120...I see none of these side effects.
