While somewhat agreed with you Quantum,(who wants to drive in France anyway). We have tolls on our new motorways. Why do you think that truckers fill their tanks outside UK?

There shouldnt be any extra tax on us if we had a government that knew how to manage their budget. Millions allocated to NHS recently and wasted on red tape instead of helping the people. Waiting times for surgery are no better.
At the bottom line we are becoming the most overtaxed nation.
At least some of the Scandanavian countries who deliberately charge higher taxes, provide excellent care for their elder citizens.
Time to get spongers off the benefits. England is set to become one of the highest densely populated countries with not all paying any form of taxes

Truckers fill up outside the U.K because France has a different way of charging their motorist, as I just explained. Same goes for spain, if you actually work out the average price of driving a car in Europe, the U.K is pretty average. In fact the cost of running a car and the price of petrol, inflation taken in to account, has actually gone down consistently over the last 30 years.

A government who knew how to manage their budget? Every single government since the war has come to office with the promoise of reducing bureaucracy but EVERY single government increases it, there is a simple reason for this, because it's actually how you get policies implemented for an increasingly demanding affluent nation. Though I would agree, that productivity has not gone up nearly highly enough in the NHS over the last few years, so I do think we should get more bang for our buck in that respect, but I certainly endorse the system we have over something like the American set-up.

You bring up 2 very separate points there:

1) Poor off families / individuals should not have to pay as much to live in warmth

And I completely agree with this, government needs to subsidies them, but it means tax for the rest of us either way. Either Government raises it through taxes on businesses / income taxes etc.. or we mandate companies to do it and they'll likely raise everyone else's and then be able to use that an excuse if they do overcharge us.

2) The cost of fuel is more in the U.K than anywhere else in Europe

While true, the average cost of driving on the road is very normal compared to the rest of Europe. Just countries like France charge far more on road tax and we don't really have to pay tolls here as well. When we're talking about a more green country, it seems fair that the cost of tax you're paying is proportional to the amount of pollution you're making.

It's not the job of the U.K Government to tax British companies for profits their making from non-British ventures, maybe if they made the money of us then I'd agree with it, but it's actually a highly competitive Energy market.

If we start asking companies to subsidies our energy then we're only inviting the big companies to create a monopoly.

You sure you have the Guevara edition  Bit Che. Normally you tell Chip you've donated and he activates your forum profile and you can then put your forum username and password in Bit Che to activate it. However I think you can use something to do with your Paypal e-mail, if your doing this then it won't be linked to your forum profile so it doesn't mater.

First of all we do not condone downloading any copyrighted materials (like audio books will most likely be unless they are licensed under creative commons). However, to take your hypothetical example, there's not a lo you can do, but on thing that might help is typing:

The Rats -Boomtown

This will then remove all results which include "Boomtown" in the text.

Tex, surprisingly SLi isn't very good at handling double screen, CrossFire wasn't either till recently, I imagine nVidia will catch up soon. Best I can suggest is to keep drivers updated, ask about on graphics card forums, it might even be worth updating your Graphics Card BIOS.

Tks Quantum, Believe it or not ,have never updated bios on graphics cards. Wouldnt know where to start. Back to the drawing board to get more info. lol

8800GT was a pretty good card when you bought it, but times have moved on and there are faster even more reasonable price cards now, but this is expected of computers.

If you were willing to look at AMD then I'd probably suggest trying a computer with their new integrated graphics processor, it apparently performs really well, and is very good at video decoding if you set it up, so you can tie it together with cheapish CPU and not have to worry about demanding tasks. The combination makes a strong cheap platform.

Unfortunately, Intel's counterpart graphics chipset has significant performance woes, even Intel have admitted it has problems. So if you want an Intel platform I'd highly suggest getting a cheap discrete graphics card like the nVidia 8400 or the ATi 3450

uTorrent 1.8 by default doesn't let you update the tracker very often (something like once every 20 mins) and allows the tracker to set an interval time if it so wishes.

RAM on graphics card has nothing to do with RAM on the motherboard.

Graphics cards are essentially like mini computers, with the GPU as the CPU, RAM, the card acting like the motherboard and various I/O ports. Graphics needs its own, typically faster, RAM separate from CPU RAM if it's to run well.

graphics tend to be poor on any internet program if you dont have a reasonable graphics card and processor.

Not really related, you need a decent processor to run high bit rate programs, but that's it, the quality looks the same no matter what processor your running it on.

Well assuming you've been through all the start up files. the easiest solution is to back everything important up and re-install windows. Then just be careful with things, make sure you keep everything up to date, use programs like ccleaner and spybot search and destroy on a regular basis and defrag occasionally as well. If it happens again try and spot what were the last things done.

Windows is quite frankly a bit of a crappy operating system for this sort of thing, but even if it unlikely happened on a Linux OS and there was nothing obvious in the start-up files.

CoD:4 was pretty amazing, I wouldn't describe it as "Best Game Ever" but it was an exceptional FPS in an age where it's hard to prod your head about the mass of other FPS' out there.

Sorry Quantum, I must have given you the wrong impression I have got three working freeview boxes. It's the free football channels I'm after. for instance, I just watched the Manchester United---Newcastle match on my PC. This was broadcast on Skye sports one, a pay per view channel, it didn't cost me a penny, BUT, the graphics were not good.

I don't know sorry, the legality of any such solution there will be legally tenuous, the best you can do is find somewhere that streams it over the internet (the quality will always be poor or the internet would start melting) or tune a satellite in to a foreign television channel.

I'm fairly sure the noise as gibbler describes it is known as the system beep. This could be being activated for a number of reasons.

I think it's possible to simply turn it off if you have a good around, but honestly I'd look in to your system processes and try and work out which process activating it.
