Bit Che for Wine - Mac OSX & Ubuntu / Bit Che on GNU/Linux
« on: November 15, 2014, 01:19:53 pm »
Hi all,

It has been quite some time since I've been around here. Recently I have found a need for Bit Che again, so I decided to stop by. I'm very glad to see everything is still running well and there has been an updated version of Bit Che.

I use Linux almost exclusively now so I used WINE to get it running and wanted to share my experience. It works almost flawlessly out of the box other than being able to save torrents directly from the application. For now, you have to follow the URL and then get the .torrent from the webpage. For diagnostic purposes this was Bit Che 3.0 build 10 with WINE 1.7.31 on openSUSE 13.1 x86-64.

I applied to be maintainer for Bit Che on the Wine HQ AppDB so check back here for future updates or for your own reports. I see chip has already done the honors of starting the page but looks like the latest tests are quite old:
https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=9707

If you use Bit Che on Linux please report your failures or success in this thread and/or on the AppDB page! Anyone can submit a report there and it helps everyone who is trying to use Bit Che on Linux!

General Discussion / SOPA
« on: November 16, 2011, 10:23:34 am »
NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- A proposed new bill intended to combat online piracy has sparked a giant backlash from big tech companies, including Google and Facebook, who say the proposals are far too strict and rife with unintended consequences.

This has been all over the news lately, I'm sure some of your Americans have heard about it. I am very disgusted that something like this would even begin to show up in American legislature. I think it already failed to pass, so hopefully we won't hear much more about it after today.

Mobile Phones / Streaming HBO on your phone!
« on: April 29, 2011, 02:56:13 am »
This is an excellent idea:

But it also shows how much providers have to improve their network infrastructure. Can you imagine how congested the network would be if everyones tarted streaming video on their phones too?

Reminds me of the exaflood and youtube.

Mobile Phones / Android 2.3.4 and proprietary binaries pushed to AOSP
« on: April 28, 2011, 09:29:51 am »
I've been running Android 2.3.3 for a while now on my Incredible with CyanogenMod. 2.3.4 just got released to AOSP so it should be out for CM shortly. Adds some great google talk features including video chat and voice (free VoIP essentially, I think).

Music - Movies - TV / Watch Sports Live (and other streaming content)
« on: April 08, 2011, 05:18:27 am »
We all know that p2p is a great way to get your favorite movies, music, programs, shows, and many other forms of digital content.

However, the one area where it lacks is being able to watch something fully live. For most things, that doesn't matter so much. But for sports, it matters a lot. The following is a non-comprehensive list of sites that you can use to watch live sports and other live content through streams. We are not affiliated with these websites in any way. If you have more that you'd like to contribute, post here and I'll add it to the list.

P2P - Filesharing / LimeWire sued for 75 TRILLION $
« on: March 23, 2011, 04:07:31 pm »
"13 record companies are trying to sue Limewire for $75 Trillion. The NYC judge in the case thinks it is 'absurd'."

I think it's absurd too. How can you ask for such an outrageous amount?

Have you guys seen this phone with built-in video game controls? Looks pretty sweet. I'm not sure how different this will be than the PSP phone, I wish Sony was more consolidated.

Mobile Phones / HTC Incredible S has signed bootloader
« on: March 23, 2011, 03:58:35 pm »
Having the original Incredible and being a big fan of HTC's decision to keep the booloaders unlocked, I am quite disappointed to hear the news that the new successor, the Incredible S, will have a locked bootloader.

Are manufacturers trying to crack down on us who love to change to custom ROMs?
Perhaps all the glory and popularity of custom ROMs will only be known when Android was in its infancy. I have a feeling in a few years when all these phones come locked we will look back and remember the "good times" of freedom, like many, many other fields.  :-\
